NBD: 1952 Precision

That's really nice, with a very convincing refin. Grats. Good choice on the Antiquity too. If you have the original dead pickup (?) SD can restore it to orig spec.

They say that someday "cockroaches" will outlive everything else on earth....looks like yours is still alive and kicking. ;)

I don’t have the original but I’m definitely going to keep an eye out. I heard the original can be a bit unbalanced on the G but hearing is believing.

Never thought I’d get one of these but an opportunity came up. My thought was I would just try it out and see if I like it, but I had heard mixed opinions on the early 50s precision.

This isn’t fully original as it had a neck repair and respray in the early 60s done by fender. The body was also refinished by Joe Riggio (looks pretty awesome) and lastly the pickup is a Seymour Duncan Antiquity.

Well. I plugged it in and it just sounded so smooth with the tone rolled back a touch. I couldn’t believe the sound of this little pickup. I need to get some labella’s on it now.

Anyway. I decided I’d be much happier if I bought it.

These are the stock photos from Folkway.

Welcome to our newest Slabebrity! Well done, OP!

I was lucky enough to have a Tadeo Gomez '52 P bass almost 40 years ago.

Here's a rare pic of the master at work.

And the building your bass was made on the corner of Pomona Ave & Santa Fe Ave.

Congrats on snagging a real piece of music history!
You might want to get Detlef Schmidt. Lots of great info on these early classics.

Wow amazing thanks for the info. I will definitely pick up the book. It does feel like a piece of history. I traded a 1950 Gibson J45 for it and though that was also a cool piece it didn’t feel as unique or rare. Being a bass player primarily it was a no brainer.

My pleasure. TB member @Bflat is our slab historian who's been a huge help to all of those here who prefer the primitive early creations of Leo's low end endeavors.

While I've owned a '52 & '56 P & many '60's & 70's Tele basses I still cherish & use my 51/55 that's been w/ me for 37 years now.

May I make a suggestion? Have you considered fiber saddles to bring that beauty even closer to its original status? Recently added some to mine and thrilled w/ the results.

I’m the same age, and it looks like it’s in a lot better shape than me…Congrats!
