NBD - 1963 Jazz

New (old) bass for me this week. This bass is been seen on the forums before: SOLD - FS/feeler Vintage 1963 Fender Jazz Bass. "Stock"
The author of the post ended up taking it to a local guitar shop a year or so ago, and they cleaned it up after keeping it in the back for a while. Caught my eye a few weeks ago and decided to take the plunge in to pre-CBS vintage land.
It's all stock except for a poly refin of the backside. From the stamp underneath the pick guard, it looks like it was a Fender factory refinish and they did not refinish the front nor unsolder the pickups. Then the original owner put one of those plastic shields on the back. Maybe he wore rodeo belt buckles? So the front and neck is nitro and naturally relic'd, while the body back is nearly scratch free poly that I'd be lucky to ever wear through.
The neck feels great, its stamped DEC 1962, the pots are 1963. I've had my modded '73 since I was a teenager in the late '80s, I think I'll always be a Jazz-man at heart.

Correct me if I am wrong, but shouldn't the "offset contour body" decal be closer to the main decal and not at the top of the headstock? I think they moved it to the top late in 64. Not trying to rain on your parade at all or dispute its age, but it could well have had a refin on the headstock too. She is a great bass for sure, but as the owner of a 63 myself I did a bit of research into this.
And I have been known to be wrong....

Not sure sigma. They sell a lot of Ernie ball at that store, so could be that. It's got flatwounds now, but I think I'll put a new set of rounds on this weekend.

Congrats. That's in better shape than my '64. It's hard to describe what makes these old basses more desirable. We call it mojo, but the feel and comfort of these old basses make them feel like your old best friend and partner in sound.
