NBD....1979 Ric 4001 Autumnglo

picked this up from a friend who has good taste in basses. 1979 Rickenbacker 4001 bass in autumnglo. I’ll try to get more pics up....

Played my first gig with her last Saturday. I did not find it to be uncomfortable. As you can see below the bass is much better looking than me.

Yeah, that takes me back, buddy and I bought Rics the same summer of 79’, mine a Jetglo, his the Autumnglo. He later traded it for a T-Bird, which floored me, but we used to swap for fun. Do you like it with the pup cover on? I love how it looks, but right in my way.

I kind of anchored by thumb on the neck pickup and kept it there all night. As long as I do that it's not in the way. But I'll end up taking it off and I'm sure I'll like the difference in tone playing over the back pickup, and when I do, it will stay off.

I got the “cove” model, I don’t use the thumb rest much, but it’s a recess instead of a raised ridge, so it’s out of the way for picking. Some people use the cover for a handrest, I like to pick right over the bridge pup, so off it went.
I have a "cove" for my 4003S in chrome but wanted black. I bought one used from a currently banned member and forgot to ask what type of thumb anchor it had. It has a raised thumb rest. While I prefer the look of the black the chrome cove just works better for me.

Check out the Tubeampology Treble Bezel, available in chrome finish and a couple different options for thumb anchor. They have one specifically for 4001 basses. Looks nice and keeps your fingers out of the sharp edged hole around the bridge pup.

Thank you very much for this information!! I’ll be definitely putting one of these on. I was also thinking about a clear zero mod thumbrest for the neck pickup.
