I picked this up at Brickhouse Music in River Falls, WI. About 25 miles East of St. Paul. If we ever have another Twin Cities get together, I'll bring it along...

I'm not great at describing tone nor do I get much out of other people's descriptions. I'll see if I can get a recording up in the near future.

The knobs on mine just slide off like normal Strat type knobs.

I have to be careful. A Destroyer bass from the same era (with the same pickup complement) just popped up on the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. Must resist.

One of my students (I'm a high school English teacher) had a very beat up defretted '83 destroyer. Those pickups, even with ancient strings sounded full, loud, and beefy-- the best of what passive pickups have to offer. That giant P pickup is the bomb. I have to say I like the tone of the super P4 in my '81 a bit better. It's even hotter!

I have an earlier version of these decked with a P and one J pick up and oddly enough I bought it some time before Ibanez started out to market the bass on magazines. I still love it and it is in pretty good shape too. I love the idea of having 24 fret neck on it as at the time I played in a three piece band and needed to fill in a bit so the extra frets were handy. It is rather heavy compared to modern basses around, but it sounds great and is perfect rock bass so it is a keeper. Here is an photo of it.

I like the look of those Ibbys. They remind me of the Brian Moore basses.

Not sure I'd get along with that top binding, though. Ouch!

My RS924 and RB924, I've only owned these for a few months but already I can't imagine playing another bass.
I tried an RB820 and RB760 before settling on the RB924 and I'm glad I did as it has much more versatility in its tone.
Can't really comment on the tone of the RS924 as the previous owner swapped the dimarzios for emgs, that said it has a really great neck, 40mm wide at the nut and just a little bit deeper in profile than the Roadstar.
When I can afford it I'd like to try an RB960 and RB650.

The RB924 is a relly sweet bass. I bought mine new back in 1984 and stupidly sold it a couple of years later. Fortunately I found it again in a music store 14 years later and bought it back. I will never sell it again for sure

If I'm not mistaken, that's also an 83 and it has the truss rod at top of the neck whereas mine has it at the bottom. That's odd.

I had one like this back in the 80's. Same color too. I don't even remember why I sold it. I still think it's a great looking bass.
