I'd like to start my first thread off by thanking the TB community for providing such a useful array of information. I've been playing bass since the early 70's and had no clue how much I was missing! Of course this has also led to GAS, and I've purchased four basses (plus other gear) since joining TB.
My latest acquisition is a 1987 Ibanez Roadstar II, an active RB850. According to the seller, archived catalogs the from Ibanez site only show the 850 available as a 3 knob passive version. The active electronics were standard on the RB800 4 string and RB885 5 string. He thinks this must have been a special build or some kind of production change. Anyway, it's in great condition for its age and plays well. It's got D'Addario rounds now. I tend to like flats and am thinking about putting a set (maybe Chromes) on this bass. Are there any Roadstar owners on here who have done this? Any suggestions for other strings would be welcomed.
I play mostly blues and R&B. My other Ibanez basses are:
1977 Silver Series fretless (P bass copy) that I bought new in '78, with DR Legends
SR 700 with Chromes
SR706 with DR Neons
AEB10 with Fender bronze phosphors
