NBD - 1987 Peavy Fury

Today I picked up a used 1987 Peavy Fury from Facebook marketplace. It came with the original case for just over $200. When I got home, I dropped a Dimarzio model P pickup in it, and this thing plays and sounds phenomenal. I had seen a lot of hype about these early made in the USA Peavys, and now I can attest they live up to the hype!

From what I can tell, this one is a little more rare as it’s got the rosewood fingerboard and painted headstock. I have a hard time finding many others like this online.

Anyone else got a Fury? Let’s see them, drop an image on this post!

I think I was stalking that same bass but didn’t pull the trigger - you wouldn’t happen to be located in Central Iowa?

If it’s the same one, congrats. Glad it went to a fellow TB’er. And if you decide you hate it, hit me up. ;)
I am in central Iowa, so it probably was! I’ll keep you in mind. It’s funny, I actually remember when this same bass got listed back in March and I missed it the first time, so when the new owner had listed it I jumped on it. 😂

Peavey's such as the ones discussed here are AMAZING for the $$$. Their Foundations of that time also. Sound great. play great, very stable necks(after decades), and will take "abuse" without complaints. One to take on those "outdoor in summer heat of 90 to 100 degrees" gigs.

Backstory: local high school had a well-abused Foundation(left in trailer in summer, not taken care of, etc) that I got to take home to "fix it". Neck was bowed, strings were dead, action was unplayable, intonation gone. Neck fix and truss rod socket find info from then(2015):

They got it back with a straight and stable neck, intonation set, new & lighter gauge strings, action very playable, pickup heights set correctly. After that experience, 2 of them got bought by JC as they ARE great basses. Also told band director if they EVER wanted to sell the one they have....to call me, I'll buy it.

Here's my '84 Fury that I acquired in trade. The neck needs a bit of work - some sanding down to smooth out the dings, and new frets - but the Super Ferrite pickup on this is thick and meaty in the best way possible. It's a shame Peavey stopped using them on the Fury basses (though the T-20 models still used them for a while after, in the same position).
