Hi guys, I recently celebrated paying off my credit card by putting this dream bass on my credit card.

It was on consignment, labeled only as a 1991 Modulus fiver, I saw it was neck-thru by clicking on the photos. I don't know if it's a TBX per se or not. There's a bunch of pocking on the front opposite the controls but nothing through the finish. It arrived with beautiful low action and doesn't feel like it weighs very much at all.

I have been playing short and medium scales exclusively but am starting to think neck thickness is, for me, the more important variable, as this bass seems to fit me like a glove despite its daunting length.

Interestingly, the frets are made of mandolin wire; I quite enjoy the feel.

Anyway, this is going to be my only bass other than my fretless Peavey T-40. As we all know here on TB, nothing is forever in love and basses, but for now, at least, I'm pretty stoked!

That's a beauty. My Quantum 5 is a bolt-on dating from ~1992. You will get used to the 35" scale quickly. The B string is something special on these basses. I have a red over blue finish that looks red in some lights and purple in others. I like the tinted neck that you have. Mine is all black but very cool looking. I swapped out pickups and preamps a few times to get the sound that I wanted. I ended up with a pair of Lane Poor wide apertures and a Lane Poor preamp. I always liked the sound of Modulus basses with Bartolini pickups also.

yes! thickness, narrow vs. wide, girth/grip/feel/comfort --- it's all about the neck! it's your 'handle' on the world of playing better for your own bad self --- i'm so glad you're getting something that feels good to you! and your ax looks great --- congratulations on your new instrument!

Thanks! I don't dislike EMG but have read many Modulus owners swear that Bartolini and LP are upgrades by comparison. Maybe one day I'll experiment!
