Man is that gorgeous look at that binding holy cow that is a pretty bass sorry to hear about the QC issues there's nothing worse than waiting for a bass and finding even one thing wrong with it multiple issues on a new instrument is unacceptable.
ouch ! I really like this bass and I have been waiting for months so they become available at sweetwater but 12 pounds is way too much for my back

Same here. The heaviest bass I ever (briefly) owned tipped the scale just a hair north of 11 lbs. and I could only comfortably manage maybe 3/4 of a set, or an hour or so of sitting with it, before I'd switch to something else. Great tone though. Too bad.
Too bad about the QC issues on that new bass too. That's got to be frustrating after waiting all that time. I'd definitely write a letter to Fender about it, besides sending it back to Sweetwater. I'd also formally ask Sweetwater what's up with their vaunted preflight inspection procedures. If that bass was even half as out of whack as described, it should have never made it to shipping.
People dropping the ball all over the place lately. You hear about things like this often enough with giants like Fender. But man! When even a company as good as Sweetwater is slipping up so inexcusably, I have to start worrying.

I took another look at the bass today. The strings are more and more off center as you move up the neck toward the headstock. Something about the neck is out of whack. Perhaps the way the nut is slotted.

Wish somebody would've taken the cheese grater to that graphic. It's awful. Otherwise, amazing looks. Bummed about the QC.
I love the pinstripes but I could do without the West Ham United crest. That's kind of personal.
Is it painted on or a sticker? If it could be removed, if consider turning on the GAS.
The crest is painted on. If you buy this bass, you're supporting West Ham by default. Lol.
Way too heavy, even with a great strap... West Ham United owes him more than Fender does. Steve Harris has practically been an ambassador for 30 years.
IMO, the best Steve Harris model was the original one that came out around 01 even though it came with SPB3s and to my knowledge Steve never had a claret mirrored pickguard. I've only seen him with the standard mirrored pickguard.
SW 55-point inspection is a joke. I wonder what they actually inspect. I recently bought a brand new Lakland 44-01 (Vintage White) with a 55 inspection completion tag (the inspector's name was on it). The bass came with (1) a 2-inch long ridge-like artifact behind the 1st and 2nd frets, which I couldn't remove, and (2) a ding behind the 1st fret.
Steve used the 2001 era signature bass on the Rainmaker video clip from 2003. He also used it on at least one gig on the Brave New World tour in Tallin, Estonia.
As for my 2001 Fender Steve Harris Signature P Bass, I had the Seymour Duncan custom shop wind a Steve Harris model SPB-1 about five years ago. I swapped that in place of the SPB3, and it is fantastic. That was before the SPB-4 went into production.
Interestingly, the Seymour Duncan custom shop had just received an order for 10 of those same pickups from the Maiden camp. My order was added as number 11. This happened during the Final Frontier Tour when Maiden was touring the US.
There was one in my local shop and it had the same issue. The neck was out of line and it was easy to spot, so how did it leave the factory like that?
The factory guys were watching the match while they worked. They probably cheer for a different team.
I think it's a nut alignment problem, throwing the strings off. That's a real QC issue in my opinion. But I don't know, maybe that's intentional to match Steve's bass. The rest looks very accurate.
Oh, I'm going to have search for those videos. I have two of the SPB4s and I think they are the best production P bass pickups to date. Are they the same specs as the pickup that Steve had Duncan custom wind for him?
Uh.... Thats pretty heavy. Try playing a 3 hour gig standing with it and let me know how you feel
