NBD: 2022 Squier Affinity Series Jazz Bass

You can tell if it’s Affinity series by the width of the body. Affinity series have a thinner body than others fenders/squiers, easiest place to check is the neck pocket.
I've never been afraid of the Affinity line, I own 3.
With a little work, they can become great players.
My 2003 P is a CII as well, and is awesome, although heavily modded.
I'd dump the stock strings if I were you.

Unlike old version, both new Affinity j and PJ bass has same dimensions to any Fender and Squier bass.
The old version has smaller headstock end too.

The new Affinty basses are no longer simply the cheapest bass Squier makes with questionable necks, underwound pickups and flimsy tuners...they're definitely a step up from the ones Squier's been selling in thr past.

I’ve had new guitar strings make my fingertips black and believe it’s simply part of the break in process for strings from some manufacturers. I now regularly wipe my strings after playing with a GHS String Cloth which seems to remove contaminants from the string surface and allow the strings to last longer.

Don't know about black stuff on strings. Some kind of tarnish? Or a protective oil?
Here's the thingy, those basses are surely shipped with strings that are meant to be lower cost and who knows if they are any brand. I'd bet they are not a string set you could replace even if you liked them. Deal with them until you replace them and then use your favorite. Is the residue dry or is it oily?

The previous gen China made one I had definitely seemed the same thickness, a warmoth neck fit the body and played fine with absolutely no adjustment, which seems unlikely if the body were much different. It did seem some of the body contours were a little sharper, but I don't know for sure. I'd be really surprised if the head was smaller too. It came ready to play, seriously. The strings were the Fender 7050 strings with the colored ends, but idk if the Indo ones have those (you can see them in some stock photos). Nice basses though. I wonder if the Indo ones have the same ceramic pickups. They really sounded pretty good.

Congrats on the Squier Affinity! I too own a Squier Affinity and did what everyone suggested, toss out the stock strings. I even went the unnecessary route and completely modified my Affinity bass which seems to be sacrilege around the TB site. However I did this for me and am loving every note of it

So I went to Guitar Center last Saturday morning with the intent of buying a four string Squier Precision PJ, but ended up bringing home a four string Jazz Bass. I went back and forth between the two models for almost an hour, playing everything I knew with all sorts of combinations of the pickup and tone settings. As much as I wanted to like the PJ, the neck profile just would not feel right in my hands.
I ended up taking home the one on display, as it was the only one in the store. With all the plastic protective coverings all over the bass, they assured me that they had just taken it out of the box 2-3 days ago. Having options are nice, but since I was able to spend quite a bit of time with it to check for any issues, and it played and felt great despite needing a proper setup, I think it was a good decision.
It is made in Indonesia with a serial number indicating a 2/2022 date of manufacture. While Fender indicates it is an Affinity, it does not have the Affinity stamp on the head stock like they have in the past.
It really needed a proper setup. The truss rod felt like it was barely tightened with the minimal amount of tension, resulting in an extremely high action. Intonation was also not set at all, with the saddles apparently installed with enough threads to stay put and with flushed string height adjustment screws.
It was the same with the pickups, as if they were just quickly screwed in to make sure they aren’t hit by the strings during shipment. Backing out the screws had no effect. Adjusting the pickup height required completely removing the pickup screws and rocking the housing until they unstuck, popping up to their max height. From there, I was able to replace the screws then adjust them down one side at a time.
Overall, I’m very happy with the tone, and feel. The bass comes in at 7 lbs 12 oz. The stock strings are a bit rough compared to the Ernie Ball Slinky strings on my Ibanez, but otherwise sound great. My only concern is the black stuff I get on my fingers from the strings after playing, which I've never experienced with other strings I've tried on other basses. Is that normal?
Oxidation form the strings. I have some on my fingers from a set of D’Adarios right now.
I dint have deeper learn on current affinity bass Vs current CV bass. But, both are pretty close to previous Vintage modified line quality in my hand which I own several VM bass and CIC CV bass in past.
I bought a cheapo Bacchus BJB1RSM jazz bass last year, surprisingly she has pretty close to Yamaha TRBX 504 quality.

The quality of bass you can get for the money these days is ridiculous it allows so many players to get their hands on instruments that you don't need a personal loan to buy.
Some nickel roundwound strings (and bronze, while we’re at it), when new, will leave stains on fingers. This will happen less as the strings break in, quickly if played often. I often get that for a short time after installing Slinkies on Ibanezeseseses myself 
it’s common, not necessarily a cheap strings thing, and really nothing to worry about as long as you wash your hands afterward.

What threads are you reading?! I don’t recall the last thread I saw before this one about someone acquiring an Affinity that didn’t immediately dive into the modifications they had planned for it

I bought a used Chinese Affinity for $120. It lasted about 6 months before the mods started. First it was the addition of one MM pickup. Then a VM neck. Then a preamp. Then a 2nd MM pickup. Then Hipshot hardware…
I also bought an Affinity body specifically to build a fretless
