NBD - 30” Bordwell Dola

Well, my 34” S bass by Cliff bordwell has been my #1 bass for over a decade. I would have told you it’s as good as any bass out there, yet somehow in the last 12ish years, he has gotten even better.

I was so nervous that this bass would not live up to my expectations as they are quite high, but instead it exceeded them. Just amazing. I’m still working, and haven’t had time to play more than 15 minutes and snap a few quick pics, but here it is, all 6 pounds 13oz of it.

The pics don’t do it justice. It’s beautiful.

under the pickup cover/ramp is a pair of Nordstrand DCs, passive, V/V/T controls, and the switches are for parallel/series/single coil for each pickup.

Indeed, it's quite different from the shapes we've grown accustomed and part of the new generation of body shapes. I've seen Janek Gwizdala playing similarly shaped basses in his videos.

I don't either, but I'm middle aged and don't have kids. This is way cheaper than putting a kid through college, and a beautiful treat for myself.

To compliment the bass, I suggest stringing it with GHS Balanced Pure Nickels: big, round, tone; consistent string-to-string and up the neck; they don't flop or twang or thud; they have more tension than most short scale strings so they have solid feel, intonation, and fretting; they last a long, long time; they are reasonably priced.

Way ahead of you there. That’s how it came strung from cliff. And he sent an extra set with it.

I’ll just say it was in the ball park of 2 American Fenders. Normal off the shelf models, not masterbuilt.

Its just the camera angle. The bridge and frets are flawless.
