So, I have been a strat talk member for a while. I have gotten into bass, and there is limited bass talk on there... So, here goes!
I bought this Galveston 5 string the other day, very impressed with it. Awesome action, plays nice, and it has the fifth string I was GASing for.(do you guys use the GAS term?)
On top of playing nicely, it looks pretty nice IMO, and that is a bonus. Pictures incoming!

I am new here as well. I too was first a guitar player, and drummer before that, before I got in to bass. After I started
on the bass 10 years ago or so I have stuck with it and haven't been bored since. I always just want to play the bass. In a metal band for about 6 years and it is a lot of fun.

Not that you asked but I would get some new strings for that bass (I'm sure you knew that though). If in standard tuning I would recommend .45-.65-.85-.105-.125. Also, learn how to adjust the intonation, string action, truss rod and fret height and make sure the nut doesn't have any issues (filed from previously running heavier strings, cracked, etc.). There are many youtube vids on how to do this and it isn't very hard.

My first was an Ibanez GSR200. Still have it. Now my addiction has led me to my current rig of an '08 Warwick Corvette Bubinga 6 in to a Darkglass Electronics B3K Overdrive then in to a Markbass Compressore, after that a GK 2001RB and finally a TecAmp 410. The TecAmp sounds amazing.

Have fun with that new bass!

Well, you could say I know a little about working on guitars... I have built a few! anyways, I taught myself how to work on guitars on the internet, so it's all good. It received a good cleaning and restring before I started playing it. Cleaned the case too, smelled either like cat piss, dank bud, or mold. Couldn't tell you which.
Just to be clear, standard tuning IS a low B, followed by the typical EADG tuning, right? Heaviest to lightest of course.
The neck, frets, action ect is all but flawless, I did nothing other than restring and it was ready to go. Granted, I did a quick fret shining, but that's it.

Yeah, welcome man. That's the same path I took. Guitar -> drums -> bass. I originally picked up the bass because I wanted to record all my own instruments. Then I kinda got hooked on it and also found out that people are always looking for a bass player so it became my main instrument for the last 7-8 yrs or so.

Beautiful bass! I have a pair of 4 stringers that are that same design, but mine are SX licensed Bass Collection SB-301 copies (fretted and fretless). Since you clearly know what you are doing, you will find out the truth, but it looks to me like the B string (and yes, the tuning is exactly as you stated) is wound the wrong way around the post. I LOVE those minimalist headstocks (mine are even smallter because they are 4 stringers).

Congrats!

Nope, all the strings are wound on the correct side. I definitely went back to check though, I would have been shocked if I had put it on backwards.... Anyways, just to give a better view of the headstock...

Unless I have been doing it wrong since I learned how to wind tuner posts, it is right as rain. I agree, I love the small headstock. Makes tuning a breeze, I do not have to reach for the tuners.

Hmmm. I would have run the B and E on top of the tuners. But you would probably know better since you have the bass instead of going off of pics
You had me doing second guesses there... Looked up pics of 5 string bass headstocks, all the ones of the same style headstock were strung the same as mine. I was worried I had been stringing some things in reverse for a minute there! Thanks though, it's good to keep in check when it comes to small things, glad you made me think about it...

OK, my 4 stringer min headstocks just have straighter pull from the nut:

but I've actually never seen the 5 string min heads, sorry.
