NBD- '74 telecaster

Congratulations!
What did I tell you about that Wide Range? They're something else!
I understand a blend knob is calling you, but have you considered a toggle-switch, like the Yamaha BBs? That way, each pickup would give you its best, and when you use both, you'll just have enough "P" to spice things up...
Just a thought. ENJOY IT!!!

I second this:
Very nice. Great deal. Jealous. Enjoy!

Go with stacked v/t, v/t

And add this:

Congratulations!

The pups are so different that they each need a tone control, and a Les Paul type switch would give you extra versatility.
Cool bass!

Hey Paula, congratulations on your gorgeous new bass. That is a thing of beauty. I came across one a few years ago in a little shop in Ellensberg. Went back and it was gone. Still wish I had bought it when I first saw it. Whatever you decide it will be right. Enjoy your new bass!

That's a great score. Congrats!

I have the Squier version of this bass that also has an added split coil P in just about the same position. I haven't owned it for long and I can't say I've bonded with it yet. Mine still needs more tweaking.

The controls on mine are volume, blend, tone; and I can't say I like the blend knob all that much. For whatever reason, when the blend knob is on center, the volume drops considerably and the sound becomes weak. I think stacked volume and tone for each pickup is a better way to go (with or without toggle). I agree with what someone said earlier, that they are such different pickups that they should have their own controls. Also, because the split coil is closer to the bridge than normal, it has a little more treble than desired. Thus, it would be nice to be able to darken that pickup, via an independent tone control, without darkening the neck humbucker. I hope that insight is helpful to you and I look forward to hearing what you do with it.

SWEEEEEEEEEET!!! I'll tell My story, of the '73 that I got 2 years ago, and am FINALLY putting back together... VERY SOON (it took Me this long to get the matching '73 pickup)!!! (Let's just say that I'm gonna have a Rustic ORANGE, '73 Tele, with "body contours" in the VERY NEAR FUTURE...)

Not to derail YOUR post, Paula... CONGRATULATIONS!!!

BTW... We have ALL commented on the bass.
How about a thumbs up, for Paula's expertise, knowledge, and drive to get down into a beautiful instrument and get Her hands dirty enough to make it Her own. You GO GRRRRL!!! :hyper:

If I'm remembering correctly, that makes three lovely basses in as many weeks: The Fender Elite, in OTM which you got on discontinued discount, the Paisley Slab, and this really cool old beast. If'n I were you, I'd be playing the lotto 'cause you're certainly riding a lucky horse lately, though luck tends to favor the well prepared. ;)

So much for the 4-bolt conversion...
There's a reason for that. When you remove the metal disc doing the 4 bolt conversion, it leaves a 1/16 gap that has to be filled with shim. The guy who owned it before me I guess tried to run without the shim, and bottomed out his saddles long before the action was low enough. I've done at least a half dozen 4 bolt conversions, and usually use a piece of phenolic circuit board for the shim. I have a much better way now, as well. I use two recessed bolts under the three bolt neck plate. Looks factory, but is a 5 bolt!

What a cool bass! I think the only thing I'd change would be replacing the P pickup with something similar to the humbucker in the neck. At least something chrome and rectangular, maybe a T-bird pickup??? Purely aesthetic for me.
I'm putting some old white covers on the P pickup. They have turned a nice ivory color since they came off an '82 P.

Not derailing at all. Love the orange T. While I was coming up with a price for mine, I did a search for a T pickup. Could not find one in N. America, but Strat-o-crazy in Japan has them.
