NBD '83 Squier PBass

I just picked up a 30 year old Japanese Squier P Bass I bought on eBay. She has some scars, but is in quite good shape for her age. I cleaned 'er up a bit, but otherwise she's in playing condition. I thought she was light when I first picked her up -- 7.5 lbs according to my shipping scale. I think I'm going to change the rounds to flats and call it a day.

I've been a fan of sunburst ever since I bought my Telecaster . . .

The grain really pops in person, it's got some depth to it.

Whatever you do, do not clean the funk of the fretboard. Looks like its been played.

Nice score I own one just like it ..traded off the other. The body is Sen ash with deep grain you wont find on most Fenders. My avatar show's the ad for them in the early 80's. They are light built solid and sound great as good as any MIA I have owned.BTW add the flats.

Those early Japanese basses are awesome. I picked up a killer '90 MIJ Vintage White P-bass a few months ago in 8/10 condition, and it is just as good as any MIA I've played. Congrats on your new bass.

My 1983 SQ (it's black with tort) is probably the lightest bass I own, and the quality is quite impressive. Enjoy!

I don't see it around anywhere. It's likely similar to swamp ash that it was used because it was cheap, and then the snobs started to worship it as a "tone" wood and then the price rendered it impractical for use on budget instruments.
