NBD! A curious find...

Well, maybe not a curious find but I've got a couple of questions I hope someone is clever enough to answer.

First off, got a new bass last Friday, strolled into my local store and saw a battered old Ibanez P-Bass copy that had come in a couple of days prior, try it out and I love everything about it. The neck plays great, the pickup and tone control is just what I'm looking for and the price was great (£190 - nearly half the price of a brand new Squier hanging nearby).

Going to be trying it out at band practise in a couple of days time but I suspect my EBMM stingray may be appearing in the classifieds soon. I've always suspected that I don't like active basses but this has hammered it home for me. Anyhoo, I noticed upon closer inspection that the headstock says it is a custom made Blazer bass and the neck plate claims to be made in Japan. The shop owner reckons it's a Roadster he sold in the early 80's.

Is there any way I can find out if this really was a custom shop instrument? Did Ibanez even offer a custom service back then? Will these crappy phone pics be of any use to anyone?

Aha, very useful stuff. Well now I know the model (BL-700), and that they all say custom made on the headstock. And it turns out it's officially 4 years older than I am, if the serial number decoder I found is to be believed!

Blazer basses are super cool. I would love to find a great deal on a good one, as all of'em that I have came accross required more work and money than I was willing to put into it.

I love that they are all "custom made". That's like "designer jeans". I'm not cracking on the bass, just the marketing department. Or maybe the translator at Ibanez.
