NBD - A thousand oceans it has flown (Vigier content)

Reverb is both the best and the worst website on the planet. I had never imagined that I would own a Vigier Excess bass (much less be the first owner of one). Turns out that there was one listed on Reverb from a city called Kassel in Germany, where this bass had lain like a Perfect Stranger for six years, with no takers. I got a fantastic deal from the store owner and this baby is a tone monster.

Like all Vigiers, there's no truss rod, meaning the action is set to what it is. But the action is simply sublime. I tuned it down to D (my band tunes one step lower) and it's just as good. It's not the Roger Glover signature model, but pretty cool, and I am as happy as can be!

I was contemplating between much more expensive brands for my Holy Grail but maybe this is it. Or probably not when I'm back with an NBD post. Until then, here are pictures of home!

Very, very cool! I have always thought that these were very cool basses. It's neat how you found it and great that you got a good deal on it. I have had a thing for the Passion IV shape, myself.

I think I'd read not too long ago that the owner was closing up the business and retiring. Apparently he wanted someone to continue the business as is, but all of the interest was in the IP/brand and moving to produce cheaper imported (to France) instruments. He could not find someone, so the brand will end.

Is the neck some kind of composite? Why no trussrod? My Steinberger had the relief cast into the neck, so it’s non-adjustable, but that carbon graphite just does not move under any normal range of temp or humidity. How does that work on a wood neck?

They call it the 90/10 system, but there's a slab of CF running through the centre of the neck.
