i sold my red mini P a while back, and it was one of those things. i hadn't played it in ages. but while waiting for the buyer, i sat playing it and thought "why am i selling this? why haven't i been playing it?" i couldn't answer those questions, and was pretty sad when the buyer said he really really wanted it. since i had committed, i sold it to him. but that time i spent playing it on the porch on a folding chair stuck with me.
so when there was a slight sale price on the mini P, i ordered a replacement, and yesterday my new black mini P arrived. it was in much better condition than the old red one. although both were bought brand new, this one has a smooth neck, good neck angle, good action and neck relief, decent intonation and no issues like the red one had. since i'm an extra light rounds sort of player, i was happy to discover it came with fender extra light nickel rounds installed.
the only issue, which oddly doesn't affect anything, is that the round string tree (or whatever it's called) is floating, not attached to the wood at all. since the screw is attached, it'll be easy to screw it in place, but i can't even tell the difference - ariex spotted it LOL
for now, i'm playing it as it arrived, which is very rare for me. it's 4:30 am, and i finally stopped playing to head off to bed. but most likely we'll be changing the pickup for the fender pure vintage P bass pickup, currently not in any bass. and maybe replace the pickguard with a reddish tort pickguard...
(btw, if you have very sharp eyes, you may think "is the plastic still on the pickguard and the hardware?" why, yes - yes it is
