if the major problem is the pickguard I will suggest: try the bass you own now. if it sounds good and feels great to you, maybe asking for a new pickguard would be enough. serial instruments can be different one from another. maybe you get the shiny new one and then you prefer the one you returned.
I like this too.
Can there be juggling, maybe something exotic? Fish, perhaps, or birdhouses?

Idiocracy is a great movie, by the way. I might even buy it cuz it's not on Netflix - you know, that place that wiped out Blockbuster and all the hard working video dealerships that Blockbuster almost wiped out.

I think one of the funniest things about reading some of these posts is people think MF has a brick and mortar store that has floor models and display windows. MF is a call center and an internet site that has a warehouse full of music gear they ship out. You can't walk into MF and try out a bass.
If someone receives a mucked up product from MF it is because they sent you a return. It is not a demo or a floor model. Unless they let the warehouse workers open $h!+ up and play with it.

They take the bass out of the box, photograph it, weigh it and give it a quick once over.
I believe this is what you pay for. It's up to you to decide if it's worth it.
I purchased a sterling by musicman Ray 35 from SW. Before it arrived they sent me pictures of the actual bass and I noticed that the bridge was unacceptable . Very crookedly mounted.
I refused the shipment and they sent me another.
Later that week I saw the one I refused on their website for sale as new.
So what's the point? I guess we have to be vigilant as consumers. Even though these companies will fix your problem, they're not past attempting to slip one past you if you're not paying attention
No, but you certainly can walk into a GC & try one, and they share the same warehouse(s) with MF.
Why wouldn't they? It's cost effective!

It seems that the problem lies within the returns department at MF. Each return should be marked and documented as an open box item, which they do offer on their site.
It seems returns aren't segregated from New stock and are just thrown on the top of the heap and shipped out as new.
My last experience with a return I was told as a customer you can have the item inspected before shipment to ensure a damage free and new product. It is called putting a hold for inspection.

Do GC shipments come from Kansas City and Salt Lake City as MF shipments do? Just curious. As this fiasco has happened to me three times this year I am pretty sure I won't do business with MF again. I'll find out if my second G&L Tribute L2000 is actually new tomorrow when the replacement arrives.

You can. If it was a normal stock item I would say do it. However, I lost out on a 'deal of the day' by doing this. I told them I wanted the bass inspected and a good one sent out. Apparently that put me on the bottom of the pile. Several days later I called to ask why the bass had not shipped and was told it had sold out and they would not be getting any more.
