Just picked this up. It definitely needs some work but fundamentally it plays well and the pickups sound pretty darn good.

I don't know a lot about Ricks or Rick copies so any thoughts on who made it, age, value, etc. are greatly appreciated.

Here's a couple more shots. It's actually a neck-through which is kind of cool for a copy.

It looks like it's missing the bridge part on the tailpiece. Looks cool though.

Yeah, I want that if you ever tire of it.

Yea, it does look cool with the binding and all. I'm sort of taking inventory on the bass...the bridge is a bit perplexing and seems like a bit of a liability in terms of intonation and flexibility.

look at goldfish's post. i missed it at first but he's right, the saddle section of the bridge is gone, leaving the strings to rest completely on the mutes. no bueno. go to ebay and get a complete bridge and get that baby restored.

  9. Hi.

Looks a lot like my Herby, except for the dual output.
And except for the headstock that I have replaced on mine of course ;)

    AFAIK the predecessor to Ibanez.

The bridge is missing, and the strings rest on the mute :).
I don't know whether a Ric bridge works, but it's worth a shot to ask for dimensions here at TB.

Yea, for sure. Thank you so much for the info gang!

Time to do some research I guess. Ah, the joys of CL! At least the ceiling seems pretty high on this one!

  11. That looks like a very sweet copy that isn't going to need much work besides the bridge.

Obviously, replacement saddles for an unknown and old copy is a nearly impossible proposition, so either a real Ric tailpiece or an aftermarket will be in the cards.

    Sure is pretty!
    Congrats, and enjoy!

    Thanks!

After spec-ing things out it looks like a stock/standard bridge saddle piece will either fit or be too close not to try so I'm headed in that direction...we'll see.

I've played and owned EB copies and plenty of Fender copies over the years. Having never owned a Ric I can't say for sure but this seems like a decent reproduction...visually anyway.

So I ordered a Japanese made aftermarket replacement bridge saddle piece(designed to fit a real Ric) and it dropped-in like it was born there. A few more things to straighten-out and I'll see what this baby can do.

  14. Beautiful!

Sometimes I want a secondary natural Ric because fingerprints get annoying on my Jetglo. That bass is pretty. Love the checkerboard:)

Looks nice. I haven't seen too many Rick copies, but yours looks like the best I have seen. Enjoy and good luck. Interesting to hear how it sounds.

    Thanks for the kind words!

An interesting development...the only markings on the bass are a cryptic looking set of characters written in black ink or paint in the neck pickup route. They looked a little like Japanese so I sent a photo to a friend who's fluent to see if he could make anything of it.

He said it was Japanese and looks like it says "Washburn". I can't say I was expecting that!

I guess it may be a "Washenbacker".

  18. For a knockoff, that looks really beautiful.

Looks like the saddles are in the front part of the tailpiece?

    Oh, and nice bass op!

    Thanks!

That front "saddle" piece is a mute, there's a strip of foam in there and it can be raised or lowered. The strings are resting on it in the photo because the actual saddle plate that goes behind it was missing. All fixed now though....I'll try to post a pic later.
