Very nice! If I ever got a Stingray 5 I would get the same combination. Black is the only color that seems to work with that pickguard for me.

NBD! Black on Maple MusicMan StingRay

Very nice! If I ever got a Stingray 5 I would get the same combination. Black is the only color that seems to work with that pickguard for me.
As promised, here's a couple of glamor shots:
She's rocked a few of gigs pretty hard, and one show she had a hard time - the treble side pickup screw came unscrewed as the set wore on and eventually came in contact with the top strings, making them unplayable. Never ever had that happen, but luckily I had a screwdriver in my bag, so I was able to fix the problem before the end of the night.
She still is the best playing bass I've ever had. So much so that she's outshining all my other basses and I don't want to put this one back in it's case. Her tone is growing on me, however I must say that I've always been a StingRay guy and it's so easy for me to get to my happy place with this bass. It packs that low-mid wallop I've always loved. I think what it is is that it just sounds so "modern" compared to my passive J and P. I guess I didn't notice it so much with my old one because I played nothing but that one bass for so many years. Despite having that more "modern" tone, it is a very classic tone nonetheless and I am happy with it.
The black on black bores me, so I may get a tortoise guard one of these days. They run over $60 from MusicMan, which seems really steep. I guess Fender tortoise guards run about $50, so it's not completely outrageous price-wise. The black bass with a tortoise guard and a white pickup cover would be pretty sharp - something like this, maybe...

i may have to try one of those SLO Specials......I have always liked the way a ray sounds but could never get used to their necks....was like trying to play a baseball bat!
