I rarely get this lucky, I found one of my favorite basses, a 1985 mij Fender PJ-555 Boxer bass, in one of my favorite colors, aged white/yellow. It’s in incredible shape, smooth black neck, dark rosewood board, original F knobs and original hardshell case! And that color!!!

Sweet!! I like it. How does it sound and play?

While doing a quick setup one of the neck bolts snapped off in the neck!!! I had a mini heart attack, but thankfully enough of the screw was protruding to remove it.

The action is quite low and the neck is so smooth! The “hot rod” pickups sound great, I love being able to toggle through the pickups and the tone control is pretty cool. Overall: yes please!

Nice! Love the color!
I also got a few weeks ago an "E" series mid 80's Boxer. This one seems to be a rare bird too. Don't see too many in Burgundy Mist....No less fretless. Great basses! I also just picked one of the new reissues, but fretted

Ooh that's hot! I missed my chance at a fretless like that one. I'm jealous!

and smell?

Haha, funny that was a big concern. Figured it was going to smell like smoke but thankfully no smell at all. I wonder if the materials inside a case ever off-gas and cause the yellowing or if it's all UV and/or smoke exposure?

Good question for which I do not have an answer. I noticed that some of the Jazz Bass Specials have the truss adjustment behind the nut, and are not painted black on the back, while others are.
The Jazz Bass Specials with the truss rod adjustment behind the nut has 1.5 J nut width. The ones with heel adjusment hole has P bass nut width.
