NBD: Cirrus 4 Goodness

Like everyone said, beautiful! I can't believe how much it looks like a Grind, or the Grind looks like that Cirrus. Was that Peaveys intention?

Kinda like the Ibanez Soundgear series...they all look alike but there are definite differences in wood, electronics, build quality and finish. The Grind is still a quality instrument, but its not a Cirrus.

I snagged a 2005 Peavey Cirrus 4 w/Bubinga top today from a gentleman from FB marketplace. I initially reached out as he had it advertised at a really reasonable price, but was located 4 hours from me. We ended up talking on the phone, agreed to a trade (none musical items in my end), and met halfway this morning.

To say this bass is in perfect shape is not a stretch. Absolutely stunning. Came in a Peavey hard case with deep green fur. He felt good about the deal, and I believe felt good selling to me as I have a real appreciation for what it is.

Shocking though: he had it in St Louis marketplace for over a week and I was the only one of three contacts during that time that was legitimately looking to purchase. His price was 20% lower than the 4 has been going for in here, I was surprised he didn’t at least get some contacts on it.

Now for the good stuff:

Congrats! I live outside of ST. Louis and saw this listing as well, and yup, a very good price indeed.

On a side bar, if you have not heard of this yet, there is an event coming your way in KC called ‘Band Jam”. You need to check it out if you’ve not done so already. There are 70 muscians in your area that have signed on as interested. It’s been running it here in the STL area for about a year and it is a ton of fun.

The synopsis is each event themed of which 2/3 of the songs related to the theme. About 3 weeks before the event the list of songs to be covered is emailed to you and you pick out say 3-7 songs you’d like to perform. About 10 days out, you will get a second email with your assignments and who you will be performing with on each songs.

You may not get all of the songs you selected and there may be a couple you didn’t pick, but the point is this is indeed a jam, but it is very structured. The players will be grouped based on their level of proficiency. Best yet, you only need to bring your instrument(s). Backline gear and PA is provided.

There is nominal fee per event (None if not playing. It’s open free to the public), and food and drinks are available for purchase from the host establishment. The support from fellow musicians that are there is incredible.

I’ve had a lot of contact with the organizer (Troy) over the last year since I’ve been participating. IM me if you’d like his contact info, or you can find him on Google typing in Meetup or Band Jam.

Sounds like a cool opportunity for folks. I generally like the money to come to me instead of from me though ;)

so glad these basses are getting love these days.

i just took my 6 off the market. it's just too nice. a unique bass, not my go-to gig bass... but a useful instrument that plays perfectly.

yours looks to be set up nicely. these pickups are meant to be very close to the strings.

Me too, but this beats bowling and is a lot less expensive than a round of golf. Helps keeping my chops in shape and an opportunity to play songs I’ve always wanted to play, but never had the opportunity. And as a (ahem) senior participant, there are thousands of songs I’ve not been in a situation to play. Most of these events are on weekday nights.

That said, you sound like you’re not much interested, and that’s OK.

For sure, I’m for anything that gives folks the opportunity to play music. I paid a lot of money for my daughter to do school of rock, definitely not the way I got started but was worth the $ for my kid.

Congrats on you newest focus of ear and eye joy! Looks beautiful and I hope it brings you the same elation that I get when playing my Peavey Custom Shop 2005 Tiger Eye Cirrus 5. The tone and versatile sound you get from these basses are truly amazing. Looks like you got a really nice bass. Play often and enjoy it!

And yes, the pickups do kinda act like a ramp!
