Hey, George....what's your main bass or was your main bass?
Is this very different from what you're used to?
Well, I don't really have a "main bass", per se - I have a few that I gig with, a few that I use for rehearsals and general practice, and a couple that I'll trot out if I'm unsure of the gig conditions... My current band plays around 50 songs in a typical night, in alot of different tunings - so here's what I have been gigging:
'08 American Standard Jazz in standard tuning, with a hipshot for drop D
'76 P Bass, or a Schecter Hellraiser-4, tuned half step down for Eb stuff
Either an Ibanez sr3005 SOL Prestige, or sr905 - for anything that goes below D tuning: for us, that means anything from Db to low B...
I sold the Prestige, and yeah - the sr5 is a little different from my Ibby 5ers, in that it's a bit heavier, and the neck is both a little wider and a little thicker than the sr 5 string necks I have been using... I don't think it'll cause me any trouble, as the string spacing is very close to what I'm accustomed to, and I used to use Spector 5ers - which definitely had bigger necks - before switching over to Ibanez for that sort of thing...
Truth is, although the Prestige 5er was a really nice instrument, tonally it wasn't working for me as well as the slightly more aggressive sounding sr905 - so, I'm pretty sure the StingRay will work well in the same situation...
