I haven't played very many Elricks, and now I have one!

Snagged this off of ebay the other day, and picked it up today. It's in fantastic shape, and has some interesting features: Bartolini single coils, Bart NTMBF with mid switch, wenge neck, and birdseye maple fb. And you can see that it has a nice spalted top.

When I had played Elricks in the past, I thought they were big and boomy, maybe overly bassy. Well, I wouldn't call this one boomy, but it sure sounds huge!

This one used to belong to Tritone, and another TB'er before him. It doesn't look like they played it all that much; it could pass for new.

Nice Grab! I had an Elrick and it was a wonderful bass! Nice tight and growly with a fairly flat neck profile. Definitely nice and well made instruments and very reasonably priced IMO.

Traded it for my Lull P/J 5 which is much more in line with my tastes.

The pickups probably aren't single coils- the J-type pickup Rob usually uses is a humbucker/dual coil. Most likely a Bart X-series pickup.

Glad you dig it. I've played/owned a lot of Elricks at this point, and I'd say the only ones I'd consider potentially "boomy" were ones with an Aggie OBP-3 preamp in them. My old singlecut 5 had one, and I actually really dug it at times, except that it could easily get really boomy or overly bassy with only a small amount of bass boost.

Oh, so that was you. I didn't recognize you without your ball-peen hammer and fez. :) The bass may have sounded good - I sounded like a klutz.

Bryan, I haven't examined these pickups closely - George at Bass San Diego called them single coils, so I figured they were. One of these days I'll take a good look.

The pickup type doesn't matter as long as it sounds good to you- I just figured I'd mention it as I used to think they were single coils myself :)

BTW, what brand of softshell case is that? There aren't many around that properly fit a wide-bodied 6 or 7-string.

The soft case is a Pro-Tec. I had one before, I think I got it with a Cort Elrick JP5, interestingly enough. They're nice, but a bit bulky.

The pickups are 115G67J1's. Is the 115 max. string spacing? Also, they only have two leads coming off of them, so I'm still wondering if they're single coils. It doesn't really matter much, more idle curiosity than anything.

I'm not familiar with those at all, so I couldn't tell you. The guys that frequent the Pickups forum could probably tell you. What's the string spacing on that beast? Looks like a full 19mm.
