NBD: Elrickque Iglesias

When I ordered this bass last year, Elrick basses were handcarved in Chicago, IL USA. By the time it was done, Elrick had relocated to his new shop in Valencia, Spain. It added a little time to the build but it was worth the wait.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Rob Elrick’s work. I’ve owned a number of his basses over the years and they always hit their marks. With this order, I wanted something classic that I would play for a long time. I went 35” scale, passive with Aero dual-coil pickups, swamp ash body with a holly top, maple neck with a macassar ebony board.

It’s basically perfecto. Take a look…

Congrats! Your bass is beautiful in its simplicity! It reminds me of a Fodera without the butterfly, bells, whistles, or overly fancy woods. Play it in good health and have fun!

As a mathematician and math tutor, I like the Elrick lowercase "e" logo. That's a number in my line of work.

Rob Elrick's wife is from Spain & she wanted to move back. Plus, it seems Chicago has become expensive. Personally, I think he'll be able to have a bigger impact in European and Asian markets from Spain as well.

Thanks. I've had a few with his fancy tops (and a couple of fancy Foderas), but Elrick holly is still my favorite.

Gorgeous! I like the simple control layout. As I get older I find I want fewer knobs, toggles and switches.

This is his passive setup. Vol/Vol/Tone with a coil tap switch.

It came with plastic knobs. I replaced them with ebony knobs. I'm talking with THG Knobs about a matching ash/holly knob, but I think I really like the ebony.

I’d leave it as-is! It’s a nice contrast to the body and matches the fretboard.

Haha. Bass of the month club. It kind of feels like it, right? A few of those basses didn't make it (returned or sold). But I still like to share with TB when they come in. NBDs are always fun. This is my last one for this year (maybe a couple of years...lol). I'm in the eternal build queue for an FBass. That a 2+ year wait... ugh! No more toys for me for a while (famous last words... lol).

This one weighs in at 8lb 10oz. It would normally be a little lighter, but the Aeros are heavier than his normal Bartolinis.
