The "Thunderbird" sound is not for everyone, in fact it really is a waste if people want some kind of traditional "Fender" sound. For my part, the Epi Embassy Pro sounds EXACTLY how I want it to, in fact, it excels my expectations from when I first bought it.

This is the first Epiphone I've been genuinely-excited about since... well... ever. I'm glad Epiphone has finally decided to embrace their own heritage in recent years instead of just settling into the role of "cheap, imported Gibson's."

Let us know how it works out. I'm kind of split between the Ivory and the Cherry finishes.

I have originally ordered the Ivory which arrived with a broken head. Since this color was out of stock at the supplier's, it has been replaced by a cherry red one. Finally, I find that this is a better choice, since one can see the wood under the translucent finish. Otherwise, be prepared to have a good set up made (mine was not set-up at all) and some filing on the frets ends.

I just couldn't get a sound from it that I was happy with for what I do. Though I did spend a few hours with it trying. Aside from that, I thought it was a great bass - nothing cheap feeling about it at all and they really got the neck radius right with the 2 point bridge. Going to take a hit on the shipping. In related news, I've got a Jack Casady 20th Anniversary bass on the way. Played one in the store and really loved it.

That’s interesting,i can see where the pickups might not sound all that great in that situation,but they do work really well in an amped band mix. I had one of the early production models of the JC,what i liked the most about it was the pickup,and the tone switching it had,provides some really good clean sounds.

I’ve been using mine over the last few weeks with 2 different bands and 2 different bass rigs,and am actually quite amazed at how great it sounds. And i love the feel of it. I’m almost tempted to get another one,and put flats on it.

Yeah, I always get those temptations! Right now mine is to get one of the T Birds. But at $399 what do you have to lose?? I bet these sound great with flats. I suspect the first T Birds and Embassy basses were sold with flats, am I correct?

Probably so.
But remember,i said “almost tempted”.
That kind of thinking got me into gathering 5 Rick 4004’s in addition to my trusty 4000.....and i need to nip it in the bud!

I hear ya! I had the same disease. I have four Ricks, four Gibson Thunderbirds, and a lot of other stuff. Now, I am TRYING to be more prudent!! I need to discern better between WANTS and NEEDS.

Agreed. I had the same exact experience here on Long Island. It even turned me off enough to not order the Vintage Pro Thunderbird that I was so looking forward to.

Sounds like the OP got a better one. Good luck and enjoy.

It needed a setup, but otherwise very nice.

Went ahead and ordered a hardshell case from Sweetwater for mine. I’m even getting used to the ss strings that came on it.

Embassy arrived today. Im not sure how I feel about it. I don't like the neck at all. Reminds of a slightly less comfortable Rickenbacker (the D shape of the Ric is nicer). It's a P bass style neck, I normally prefer J bass width but I took a chance. The tone is outstanding and the volume, blend, and tone knobs are actually usable, which is nice. It's very light and besides some sharp-ish fret ends it's a great bass. It does not play as well as the Tbird though as I can tell there are a couple high frets. I'm going to give it a few days and then make a decision.

Just got my new Embassy Pro this week. $300 from Chicago Music Exchange. Really digging it so far. Finish is a very creamy white and overall it feels like a very solid instrument. Can confirm my bass came with sharp fret ends and the nut is a tad high. Simple fixes on both. The rosewood board looks a bit off to me. It's very dark with gray streaks. Like it was painted to look like a faux ebony.

great price. I just pulled the trigger on a black blemish and it was 339. need this like a need a XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX but i love old tbird pups but just hate a tbird body.. Scott (GOT) recommends the pups is enough for me., He certainly knows tbirds.
