NBD F-Bass VF4

I am the proud new father of a 2020 flat-top FBass VF4. This is the first real boutique level instrument I’ve owned and my initial impressions are really positive! Compared to my EBMM stingray special 4HH, I would say it has a much more “tame/vintage” sound. The output isn’t anything near as hot as my ‘ray or Bongo, but it sounds and feels great. It is everything I would expect from an instrument of this level!

I would love to get an F Bass someday. The VF series would be my first choice, although I’m also strongly interested in an F Bass VI

I’ve been considering a VF for a while. I have a BN, so I’m good on F Basses, but they’re so nice that more would be fun

Yeah! does F usually use Aguilar pickups? And a J neck pickup and soapbar bridge pickup? This is unusual and cool. OP I've noticed that the Aguilar preamp is very low-output compared to most active preamps, which jives with your observation. My bass with Aguilar pickups/preamp is less hot than my passive Sterling!

VF's do generally use Aguilar pickups and are most commonly PJ or JJ configurations. I've seen single P versions too, but the MM is indeed uncommon. I'd guess that model uses the F Bass in house preamp, not the Aguilar, but I've seen them with other preamps from time to time. I'm sure the OP will set us straight

It does in fact have the Aguilar OBP-1 preamp. I remember for a time, it was an option on their customizer online, but now the only option the fbass preamp.

Prior to purchase I had toyed with changing the preamp out with a trickfish, but I don’t know. I do really like the tone of this guy.
