Coated strings I love them.I haven't tried DR, but I swear by Cleartone. Can you actually tell a difference in feel from coated and non. I cannot, but I've read people don't like the feel on some brands.

First gig went great with them. They both sat in the mix very, very nicely. I walked out front a few times over the course of the night, and they really sounded great through the mains. The EQ's are very usable, I'm very impressed with the preamps in these things. I honestly didn't find anything lacking in the tone department.
I know I've mentioned it already, but the necks on these basses are truly amazing. After a 4 hour gig, I had absolutely zero left hand fatigue. I've got them set up with very low action, and they just play effortlessly.
In my opinion, it sure seems like Fender got it right with the Elite series.

I've tried an Elite Jazz and Elite PJ...and they are quite nice! Those were 4's..tried a 5er as well and found it hard to put down. Set up was sweet end to end and string to string.
I dont need the active electronics, but I am quite curious about those compound radius necks, which can be found on only one other model that I am aware of. As an all-in P guy who like what he's playing, that neck is the only "new" element that would get me to reach for my wallet for another P.

Beautiful! I recently bought one of these in the 4 string configuration. Personally I'm not a fan of the nut end of the hybrid neck, but I have small hands and have been playing a D profile Music Man Sterling for years, so I'm used to that feel. Everything else about this bass, for me, is perfection, and if you're accustomed to the standard Fender profile at the nut, I can't see why it wouldn't be everything you could possibly want. And you have two of them .
.Wow ! The ocean turquoise looks amazing. Can you please put some more pics of it? And some pics zooming the ebony board! I can't find any real pics of that finish..only catalogue pics with fake colors. Looks really cool!

I've never played coated of any type.
I went from Ernie Ball Slinky's to DR Lo-Riders (1st stainless then nickel) to D'Addario Nickels to DR Sunbeams.
...and to get this back on-topic: I've been lusting after the Elite 5 for a while & I love that Ocean Turquoise one!

Not quite as bright out of the box as uncoated Lo Riders, but they retain their brightness much longer. They also have a certain mid presence going on that I can't find in any other strings.
