So, after some time away, I decided to come back to what works for me, and these are what I ended up with: Fender American Elite Jazz V's in surf pearl/maple and ocean turquoise/ebony.

Digging them so far, first gig test will be tonight.

The surf pearl one is a limited edition color I got through Musicians Friend.

The ocean turquoise one seems to be a standard color, but it proved very difficult to find in stock.

Whatever magic Fender worked on the necks of these Elite basses, they did it right. These basses have possibly the most comfortable necks of any basses I've owned (and I've owned a lot).

Fit and finish is perfect. There's not a single flaw in anything on them.

I can comment on tone once I've gigged them tonight. That's where it matters most.

I've always wanted either a surf green or seafoam green Fender. But, they were never available (to my knowledge) as a 5 string, at least not in the American made line up. So when I saw this one, I had to have it.

I understand that the Elite models boast a copound radius neck, very uncommon in Fender world. I have read several players say these necks rule.

That's pretty much it. I got the green one, liked it so much that I wanted another for a backup or whatever. Searched around until I found an ocean turquoise/ebony one and grabbed it up.
