Maybe I'm being petty but I feel like after paying $1600 for a new bass, I shouldn't have to be preoccupied with odd distortions on notes. I have ten other basses with no such issues at any point in time.

When buying a new bass online, you will almost always need to have it set up. Even discounting the transport conditions (which suck, because UPS/Fedex/DHL are horrible), the Fender and MF warehouses have temperature/humidity conditions that differ from your house.
Sounds like a pick-up height tweak is needed...simple set up issue
Get it set up how you like and then try...with 10 other basses, you must have some developed set up preferences ....get it set up and give it a go....

It's almost certainly a set-up issue and the bass you have is going to be more versatile and of higher quality than the Flea bass. That's an $800 bass that they're marking up because they're attaching his name to it.
It's bizarre to me because it's a weird distortion only on the G string, 3rd and 8th fret. Everything else about it is awesome.
So... I'm A/Bing my other basses with it. They too all share the same weird reverb on G-string 3rd/8th frets. Why would this be? Is this amp related?
That last sentence doesn't make much sense. The regular Roadworns are only $100 less, and the Flea model is in a rare finish and has the stack knob setup and 64 RI pickups. And although I don't care for relicing, the Roadworns I've tried have been quite impressive--resonant and light.
That said, I agree that the OP shouldn't give up so soon on the Elite.

I've got the white one to. Man what a bass!! Plays and sounds like a dream.
In passive on the front pickup you have a true standard P. In active there's a pallet of sounds en a lot!! of headroom. The neck is amazing.
