NBD Fender Jazz .. I hope

I’ve been searching for a while but finally grabbed a 2015 Fender standard jazz bass. It looked beautiful on the guitar center website with a red tortoise pickguard but it came today with a plain black one. I was obviously quite bummed. They couldn’t find a replacement pickguard in store so I’m at least getting the price difference.

The neck serial number matches up but is there any way to ensure the body is legit? Im hoping someone just swapped the pickguard and that’s it. Pickups seem fine.

Looks killer and totally legit. Seriously I wouldn’t remotely sweat it. The bridge/saddles are 100% accurate so I’d say zero chance everything was switched on the body. BTW I love how it looks with the black pickguard!
Thanks for the vote of confidence! I talked to fender and apparently it was originally a white pickguard from the factory anyway.

It plays and sounds great, though!

It looks like a great bass, how does it play? I snagged a black PG for one of my TB J's (although it's single ply) I am diggin it.

Originally came with a white pickguard just wanted to change it up you could always grab a red tort guard down the line if ya get bored but the b/w/b looks killer!

Congratulations. That is a beautiful J. It looks pretty flawless. The black pickguard looks killer (IMO).

I'm glad they comp'd you a bit for the pg, but I can't understand why they'd go through the trouble of swapping it out. Especially since they listed it with tort. It's not like tort guards are rare unless the supply chain is that seriously effed up. The black is ok, but I'm a fan of tort.... especially on 3TSB. That said.... CONGRATS!

Thanks! That’s what was so confusing…like why swap it out in the first place. That’s what made me a little paranoid, but oh well. Made out good on the deal and plays great!

That was gonna be my next question, @roccobladr compared to the pics from the GC ad can you tell if is in fact the same body? They may have listed the serial but with the wrong pic hence the serial match I cant see an employee swapping the guard.

Here is the GC screen shot I was able to get. It wasn’t great quality to begin with..
