After scouring the internets for a new bass, and having my mind pretty set on wanting a J, I had decided to get a Squier VM Jazz. I was about to pull the trigger when I'm told that a friend has a MIM Fender J he's selling.
This is fantastic for me because, not only is it faster than ordering online, I can actually try out the bass before buying it! (A Luxury when living in a island where you pretty much have to order all your music equipment online).
I went over and absolutely loved the feel and sound of this bass. He mentioned that, since we've known each other from way back, he'll throw in another Pickguard, PU Cover and Ashtray. Also a hand-made thumbrest his dad made. All for $380
So, without further ado (and so I don't bore you with a plethora of details) Here's the specs of my new favorite bass!
-MIM Jazz Body (The color is that... greenish/blueish/greyish tint? I'm horrible with the name)
-Allparts Fender Replacement Jazz Neck (Maple with rosewood fretboard. Block inlays)
-Fender American hardware (Tuners)
-Hi Mass Vintage Fender Bridge
-Seymour Duncan Basslines QP Jazz PUs.
-Aforementioned Fender Ashtray / PU Cover
-Pots are wired: Master Volume / PU Blend / Master Tone
This thing sounds fantastic. Great punch and depth, and absolutely great for funk. It also sounds awesome with a pick.
One of the things that sold me on it was the action and feel of the neck, especially since I do a lot of two-handed tapping. It handled it so well. I'm still in awe every time I play it.
Paired with my Fender Rumble, I can definitely say that this is my favorite set-up I've ever had. (Sheesh, I'm a walking Fender billboard). I'll also try to record some clips in the next few days.
Of course, No pictures no bass. Let me post this thread and then get my phone and upload them. (I'm at work, so I can't do it on the computer)
