Recently I bought a Fender Player Precision in sage green. I changed the original bridge for a Gotoh bridge that I had laying around. right off the bat this bass feels amazing to play and it is very light.
Before buying a p-bass (this is my first P) I was nervous because P basses are usually heavy and with big necks and I have small hands and Im used to jazz style necks, which my main bass has. I absolutely love playing this bass.
Sound-wise is another story. The bass sounds a bit thin or stringy to me, even after putting some flats in it, I feel it lacks that full sound that I was expecting from a P-Bass. I compared it with a friend's highway one precision and that one has a fuller and more powerful sound than the Player P with mine sounding more like a jazz bass in the neck pickup than it does to that Highway One.
Since its my first P I want to experiment with different pickups to hear their differences in a bass so I changed the orignals for a Seymour Duncan SPB-1 and I do not feel that there was a lot of change in the sounds, it became a tiny bit rounder but still lacks that punch. most likely Ill end up changing the pickups once more for some Fender PV63 to see if I get closer to that elusive vintage P-bass tone.
Anyways, what I love about the bass is the playability because even though the Highway One sounds way better to my ears, that one I can only play for a couple of songs before it starts bothering me whereas the Player P I can use for hours. Ill swap the pickups on the Player for other types of pickups just for fun but I do not think that Ill stay with this bass in the long run because I am not convinced on the sound. and it looks awesome.
