Hey Guys, A couple days ago I got my new Fender Jazz Bass. This bass is part of the “Player Series” instruments and was build in Ensenada México. I went with the Maple neck with a black body and classic white pickguard. The Neck has a gloss finish on the fingerboard and Headstock. However the back of the neck has a very smooth satin finish. It feels very soft and doesn’t get sticky at all. The Body is finished in a gloss black finish. The paint job is done really well, the only thing I found was a scratch on the lower horn. Personally it doesn’t bother me at all. The sound is great. It obviously sounds like a Jazz Bass. It sounds round with a light touch and it growls when yea dig in. The two j pickups sound great alone or in any combination. Especially the Neck pickup. It can “Geddy” when played with a heavy hand but it does just as well do Marcus Miller when slapped. Overall it’s sounds and feels great. The build quality is really great besides the scratch but I’ve seen worse from way more expensive brands/ basses. The JB is actually super resonant/ loud when played without an amp. Besides having some difficulties with the shop I’ve bought the bass, I’m super happy with my first real Fender.
I’m planning to make it a little bit more “Geddy” with the Fender High mass bridge and a different pickguard with the alchemy Amalgamation Symbol.
A pickup upgrade would also go a long way, and a nice vintage wire kit with CTS pots. That's what I did to my Player P. Also, you can drop Hipshot HB7 tuners right in there. Big upgrade.
I have to confess that I actually really like the stock pickups but yea a set of Duncan pickups would do some magic. But that’s something for the future. However a pot change is something I probably should do on all of my instruments. The tuners are alright, quite stiff but thats something a drop of oil some good turns will take care of.
Yea great brewery. I’ve been there 3 years ago during my birthday NYC trip. Too bad I don’t get the good stuff in Germany.
Congrats. If after a while, you wear that satin feel from the back of the neck, a scotch brite used lightly will restore the satin feel.
Congrats I also play a Player Jazz Bass (white + maple) and can confirm that the pickups indeed sound great.
That color ombination of black body and maple neck is great, reminds me of the Black Beauty which of course was a Precision.
Very nice! It should serve you well. My 2012 MIM J has held up like a champ, and I've played the heck out of it, too.
That brewery is right under the Brooklyn bridge if i remember correctly----surprised... Germany has some of the best beer in the world!!.Went there several times on tour in the 80's and my hangovers can justify how good the beer is..very nice bass btw, must sound killer with maple neck!!....play it well!!
Nice bass, congrats! Looks great paired with your Squier P. You could stop there and go far with those two! (But of course you should keep buying basses like the rest of us incorrigible TalkBass GAS junkies.)
Anyone with a beer and sausage in their avatar is cool in my book. Congrats on the nice looking bass! And an SG! Rockin’
