saved some pennies. bought it B-stock from proaudiostar and it arrived today. With some pickup adjustment and a tweak to a volume pot, its up and running great. great tone, punch, and feel. fender set it up well from the factory. getting used to my first short scale neck, but I love it so far. a merry Christmas and (almost) happy birthday to me.

been thumbin around with it all evening. it's my first experience with a chinese made fender. i am very impressed with the quality. the fretwork is superb. binding, finish...all great. really has a nice feel (and a bit weighty

Nice score! I've had a sunburst Starcaster for the past few years, and absolutely love it.

I've been eyeing the Starcaster for some time now. Thank you for posting the "family" pic. Seeing it in relation to the P bass really brings it home that this is a big bodied bass. That said, I really like the vibe, and the reviews I've seen are great. Congrats!

there were no issues when I got it in, barring a volume pot. the b-stocks are factory returns, from my understanding. Fender gives them the once over and sends them out. I wouldn't know a difference from a new model from the store. the threaded shaft on a volume pot loosened itself from the pot, making it difficult to tighten to the bass/use. I soldered the shaft to the potentiometer body and it's working like a charm. it was only single boxed with bubbelwrap, and could have been damaged in shipping (box had a big dent, ty UPS). either way, when I get a bass with this good of fretwork, I don't ship off by the chance I get a stinker in replacement. body, neck, setup, intonation were all in great shape. had the fender hang tag with their setup specs stamped on it.
Greg Bennett Samick Remington bass. I defretted it and filled with veneer. LR Bagg preamp. Its a staple during acoustic sets. goes with a mandolin like no other.

What can you tell us about those Fender humbuckers? Similar (or same?) as the ones in the VM TBs?
never played the VM TB's. sorry, I can't tell ya. I will say they are punchy with good bass and mid. can growl, but don't have a ton of treble. surprised me, but I don't like a ton of zing.
i prefer 5, unless doing certain songs where the low B will rumble for effect.
it only comes in a 4 string. compared to what? seems durable. weighs a bunch. the core of the bass is solid, only wings are hollow.
Cool, thx anyway. Does the neck tag have any info or pup model number? I ask because they look (and based on your description, sound) like TEB 101-Bs, my current favorite Fender pup.
yessir, and a DP scroll next to it. they are tone monsters.
nope, just the setup specs. but according to fender.com, they are Dual Fender Wide Range humbucking bass pickups. and the description for the modern play telecaster bass is the same, wide range humbucking bass pickups, so I would assume they are the same.
