NBD: Fender Ultra Jazz V

Had to fly with two basses + a pedal board (tuner - compressor - octave - preamp) all over the country, and I was looking for a solution to lighten my load & simplify my setup. Three hard cases can be a real hassle.

Fender Ultra Jazz V turned out to be the answer I'm looking for.

• Versatile enough to pull out different tones
• Can go passive in case of a preamp emergency
  
• Don't "need" the pedal board
  • A clip on tuner is enough (to me) on the road
  • Compressor is optional (to me) on active basses
  • Don't need the octave pedal when I have the B string
  • Don't need the external preamp; can shape my tone on the bass and go into DI

Obviously; my alternative basses and board will still be used. But the Ultra J turned out to be a nice singular piece of equipment to pull off abroad gigs. Needed a shim; other than that, sounds and plays great. Can produce many classic bass tones I need.

I'm not going to do the gear honeymoon talk But I will share a picture, of course.

I bought an American Elite a few years ago. Great bass, but right out of case new, it needed a neck shim. Which took all of 20 minutes to do and made a great bass better (-suited for me, anyway).
