NBD: Fender Vintera II Telecaster Bass

What a beauty! I had a GAS attack too when they were announced after wanting one for years (The bass player for my first years of high school jazz band had one and It’s one of those early sounds burned into my brain). I got one in Blonde and it’s light and sounds incredible. I got lucky and found one with some Birdseye!
Good point. As cool as I think they look, I don't like slab bodies...
What I meant is, I can't imagine those basses are intonated properly with the A string longer than the E.
My Bronco intonates well but the saddle is tilted the other way so the E string is longer than the A.
I'm really loving this bass.
Honestly, the slab body doesn't bother me. Although countored are a bit more confortable, I have other basses with slab profiles and it doesn't bother me that much.
The neck has some meat on it but it's not unconfortable nor unplayable. I kind of like it and I have worse (my Jack Casady is a baseball bat...).
It's on the lighter side and balances quite well.
As for intonation, I tested it last night and it was really good. No issues with that.
It seems like a one trick pony but has some versatility when you play with the volume and the tone knobs. It gets into EB-0 territory, which I love (not everybody's cup of tea although...), but has more definition with the tone open and when rolled off can get really mellow tones that I can use on R&B or balads and even gets an upright-ish tone to it.
With the tone rolled off and some overdrive it even sounds like an overdriven vintage synth. Love that!
I have to say that it's diferent from all my other basses and that's what I was looking for. I mean, it's not a very versatile bass but I have many others that are and if I want versatility, I'll get one of those. But I have no other that can do what this one does so I'm really happy I got this bass.

That's a little secret I discovered not too long ago. Roll the tone knob all the way down, add sizable OD, turn off compression, and it creates a great sounding boiling lava rumble.With the tone rolled off and some overdrive it even sounds like an overdriven vintage synth. Love that!

Earlier this month, I scored a 'n'used VintEra II 70s Telecaster Bass at a fantastic price!!! It definitely is a different sounding bass! I love the looks, and old school vibe. I did this video same day I got home with it - I realized I ended up plucking close to the single coil '51 pickup area

Cool video. Might I ask what type of string you used?
The strings are Fender 9050M FLATwounds. .055 - .105. The same strings I use on my ‘51 Precisions
Permission to bump an older thread? I recently scored a used Vintera II telecaster bass in vintage white from Guitar Center Used. Got a great deal on it, had it shipped to my local GC. It showed up inside an early 1970s Fender hard shell case that was also in great condition - nice surprise ! I put LaBell flats on the bass immediately (45-105). Fantastic bass!!
The case is a nice bonus. The single-coil Telecaster bass and early Precision Basses are my favorite! I gig with them all the time.
I’m still enjoying my Vintera Tele Bass. Recently replaced the bridge - this was a drop in /zero modification replacement. Invalid Link Removed
