Well, I've been playing my Classic Vibe 60's Precision for a few years now and I decided I wanted to try something a little different so I put a Craigslist trade offer up.

I get an email, exchange a few texts and end up with this beautiful piece of instrument...

Yes...I traded my Classic Vibe P for a Geddy Lee signature jazz :hyper:

I originally took the trade with the intention to flip the jazz, buy a cheaper bass and pocket the extra money for a rainy day but I cleaned it up today and put on some fresh strings and I'm having second thoughts. I've never been a jazz guy but it sounds so good and its so easy to play...

What a terrible life decision I have to make

Yes, those are very comfy. I'd keep it, too.

As a Precision guy myself, I can tell you that if you put in a series/parallel switch on that Jazz, you'll be MUCH happier with the sound. Series = extra beef.

Very nice... I'd be inclined to keep it, but I also wouldn't make it "untouchable". Meaning if the right bass comes along, I'd also use it to do a straight trade.
Fender basses are the universal currency of trading imo... I traded a MIM Fender Jazz V about two weeks ago. I bought it for $160, sold it for $350. I bought a Sterling Sub Ray (which was the bass I wanted all along) - gave the $70 extra dollars to my wife. So technically I bought the Ray brand new for $90 when all is said and done.

Still intend on picking up a Fender, but perhaps a P-bass 4 string if the right one comes my way.
Your new bass is beautiful , and agree that you've got a tough decision to make there. Either way, you win. You made out like a bandit.

Great deal! That is a great bass and you did very well.

That is worthy of a sig.

I bought a MIJ P-bass a couple of years ago for a good price. It was a really nice bass, but I have a couple of really nice P-basses already and I was looking to upgrade my amp.

I saw an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro on my local craigslist a few weeks ago that was exactly what I was looking for. I put my MIJ Fender P-bass up for on CL. I decided that if the Ampeg sold before my bass, it wasn't to be and I'd just hang onto the bass. Neither my bass or the amp head had sold. The other day I received an email asking if I'd be interested in trading my bass for...

You guessed it, the exact amp that I was selling my bass to buy. How cool is that?

Worst come to worse, I'd keep the P but that's me. It's a great all-purpose bass. I have both a P and a Geddy. The only reason I like Jazz basses is becasue of the thinner necks because my hands are small and of course the sound but I always preferred the sound of a P

Awesome story, one every CL seller hopes for...had it happen only once to me, of course I had the whole voodoo doll, chanting thing going on hoping the seller of the bass would look at my ad and consider trading for it even though he mentioned absolutely no trades. The chanting thing works, I definitely recommend it. :)

That was a straight-up trade?!? You done good. Real good. If "it sounds so good and it's so easy to play," then I don't think you have a decision to make at all. Enjoy!

What kind of nut would trade his Geddy for CV? You got away with a steal.

Trust me gentlemen...I'm aware of how much I lucked out on this trade haha. Ive decided I'll put it up on my local CL at a reasonable price and let it there. If someone wants to buy it then I'll sell but if they don't then I guess I'll just hang on to it

Congrats brother, good thing you still have your MIA P to rock that thing out with right?

I have a similar story with a now long gone Tribute L2500

That's the way to do it...I've posted basses I was on the fence about selling so I posted prices that would "convince" me to sell them at. Yes, I get the offer for tattoo work, or an Air compressor but in all cases, I've sold them all at the prices I've asked so have had no opportunity to hang on to something. Best of luck.

Does the geddy lee have american vintage pickups? What are they like against the noiseless pickups, in say... the american deluxe jazz?

According to the Fender website it does have the American Vintage pickups. They're very bright and twangy but have a nice deep quality as well, maybe too bright for some but that's what the tone knobs for right? I had an older pair of Suhr designed Dlx Jazz pickups in a bass for a while and these vintage ones just sound better to me, can't speak for the new noiseless pups tho.
