NBD - G&L L-2000

I love Clear Orange. One of their best colors, IMO.

Looks like when they use the 1 3/4" nut width, they still use the pre-slotted nuts from the narrower widths. You can see that the string spacing is too narrow.

Also, I had noticed that their fingerboard dots are no longer centered between the frets, but I didn't know till now that this is the case with block inlays as well. The inlays are now cheated slightly toward the higher fret of the two frets that they sit between. Not sure when this started...but it has been a couple of years now, and they still obviously aren't aware of it. I first noticed it on my Fallout Bass. Then someone saw my post about it, and pointed it out to me on their Custom Shop full scale bass as well, via PM. So, it isn't a fluke; it appears to be a "feature" now.

Interesting observations. On the block inlays not being centered between frets, I can see that VERY slightly on the 3rd and 5th frets, but on the rest of the neck I can't tell at all - at least not visually.

On the string spacing you got me wondering, so I measured overall width at the nut and string spacing on the E-A on this bass and an older (mid 70s) Fender P I have.

G&L L-2000
Nut width - 1.75"
String spacing E-A - .475"

Fender P
Nut width - 1.625"
String spacing E-A - .425"

That's as close as I could measure using the fairly cheap set of calipers I have on hand. The thing is, I've typically played more J bass width necks over the years, but I find the chunkier neck actually works better for me with regard to hand fatigue. Honestly not sure what string spacing is spec'd for a 1-3/4" width nut. If they do use pre-slotted, that would make sense from a manufacturing perspective. At any rate, the playability is fine for me, but as always YMMV.

I don't know...
The string spacing looks perfect to me, perfectly straight pull from the tuners as well.
Looks like a very well made bass to me.

The pull from the tuners is clearly not straight. The E and G are slightly splayed (E more than G). That's exactly what made me look closer, to see that the spacing to the fingerboard edges is perhaps slightly wide, and the space between the A and D strings appears slightly narrower than the other two spaces.

I'm talking about the E–G string span, not the string-to-string spacing. It looks like there is a larger than normal space between the outer edges of the E and G strings, and the edge of the fretboard. Also looks like the A–D string spacing is narrower than the E–A spacing and the D–G spacing.

Nice color ;)

What a beauty!
I'm in the process of ordering an L-2000 with some options too. Just waiting for my UK dealer to confirm everything with G&L... then the waiting starts! Might get it for Christmas if everything runs to estimates I've had so far.
Upgrading from an L-2000 Tribute. That little beast sold me on a custom order US model.
Enjoy!

I've been wanting one of these for quite a while. Unknown to me though was that my wife was apparently stalking me on this. So for our anniversary in June of 2021 she sprang the surprise on me. I do love that woman! It's been a really rough last couple of years for reasons I don't really want to delve into because this is a happy post and I want it stay that way. This bass was her way of making my world a little brighter. She does have a way about her.

About the bass, yeah, it's everything I hoped it would be. Ordered through Sweetwater. It's pretty stock stuff on the body and electronics, but I did order some tweaks to the neck:

quartersawn maple
3/4" nut width
black binding and block inlays
graphtec nut
SS jumbo frets

This thing plays like a dream! The output is insanely hot. I had read about that, but until I plugged 'er in and heard for myself I didn't fully appreciate that. It really is the swiss army knife of basses. Series mode on the pickups is INSANE! I'm going to have to discipline myself with this one to not be a constant "knob tweaker" kind of player. At first I didn't want to gig this bass, but my wife convinced me otherwise. "That's what it's for", says she. And she is right. Basses are for playing, not for hanging on walls or sitting in cases. So 2/26/2022 she gets her public debut. I can't wait!

Photos are the official ones from Sweetwater. Those guys are better photographers than I am and these are their shots of it before it left. Props to Robby and Archie for making this happen and keeping me apprised of the status.

You said you ordered it with a 3/4” nut width did you mean 1-3/4” width

I did the same thing--bought a Trib L2500 and liked it so much I then bought a USA - in the exact same finish and fingerboard! So I really was comparing them "apples to apples" you could say. They sounded the same, slightly different neck profiles, both good...but the USA was just at a different level of build and feel.

Mine was ordered in late June 2021, received early Feb 2022. There were a couple delays which Sweetwater relayed to me. All things considered I understood. Hopefully you get delivery by Christmas.
