NBD! Gibson ES-335 Bass!

Landed a beautiful Gibson ES-335 bass today in ebony via Reverb.

Needed a bit of work, but it was fun...
-Clean and polish (Music Nomad Guitar Polish) the body, neck, and headstock
-Clean and shine up frets, pup covers, and tuning machines (Music Nomad Guitar Polish)
-Refresh fretboard (Music Nomad F-One Oil Fretboard Cleaner and Conditioner)
-Replace with new knobs (Gibson PRMK-010 Top Hat w/ Silver Inserts)
-Change toggle existing white toggle switch cap to black (PRTK-010)
-Swap out Gibson three-point bridge for a new shiny one I had from another project
-Install chrome Schaller strap lock pins
-Replace strings with new Thomastik-Infeld JF344 flats

Very nice, DWLANG!

Since you like hollowbodies, if you haven't already, try one of these: Invalid Link Removed

I played one a few times in Sam Ash, and was very tempted to buy it.

If you like a 60s vibe, this bass has it.

Very well built, and very comfortable to play. It's a 32" scale.

Good luck with the 335.

Actually it's a 30.75" just like the original Starfires were.

I got my start late playing about 10 years ago on short-scale Hofners. For several years, I played Hofner Verythin basses..loved the hollow-body, arched-top, double cutaway. I did order a Guild Starfire II online, and was really disappointed. The natural finish could best be described as a "turd-burst," the fit and finish was subpar...it felt like it was falling apart. Also it felt like it weighed a ton...what is it, like 12 lbs? No love, and it was immediately returned. After a while, I wasn't digging the short scale and collection of rattles that Hofners become after a rocking three hour gig, so I picked up a Rickenbacker 4003s. I had that for about a year, and never really liked it. I got an Alpine White Jack Casady as a backup, that almost immediately took over #1, and the Ric was sold. Still love my JCB, but really prefer the look of the equal-sized double cutaway, and that's when I saw the 335. So now the 335 is #1 and the JCB is backup. Stay tuned, things change, lol
(still love my Hofner CT Cavern violin bass for fun)

Congrats on a nice bass, DWL, but couldja tell me: I've seen Gibson use these pickups with the undrilled covers in humbucking rings on several of their basses, but don't know anything about them. Are these some sort of Gibson humbucking pickup for bass?

I haven't been able to find much, if anything, about the pups on this baby. They are humbuckers, and I've seen somebody online refer to them as Thunderbird + pups...but honestly don't know.
However, the do sound good. Moving the neck pup down from the neck to the center position takes away the "mudbucker" effect, and almost gives her a jazz bass sound at times. I've noticed that the neck is slimmer and faster than the Jack Casady...again, reminds me of the feel of a jazz bass
