I've had things smashed to hell when they were shipped inside of a flight case. It happens. Still, sorry to hear this.
bliss, from my own experience filing insurance claims, write UPS a nice long letter explaining how well you packed the bass, how many other items you have shipped successfully after packing them the same way, and how surprised you are the bass was damaged while in their possession. Be polite, but make it clear you expect them to pay full value for a replacement. Quote list price. Good luck.

It only takes a trip to the UPS depot where you see them pitching boxes the full length of a semi-trailer to understand how this happens! And "good Luck" is the operative phrase. I don't want to scare anyone or rain on your parade but getting UPS to pay is like getting blood from a turnip. "you didn't pack it properly" "wasn't packed by UPS to UPS standards", "not responsible for UPS truck backing over the box (a REAL case!)" and on and on. I had an instrument delivered to the WRONG STREET put on a porch and disappeared. (but right number though!) and their own records proved they did it and they STILL denied the claim!

So all I can say is REALLY GOOD LUCK!

Why? apart from that, he is asking other things that have nothing to do with the seller, for example he wonder if this is repairable.

i work for ups somewhat and after stacking boxes in cans for a while the best way to avoid something like this is to separate the neck and body.
