NBD-Harley Benton PB-20 Satin Black

So I had been thinking about buying a Harley Benton for some time now, and finally ordered this new variant of the PB-20. This is their lower tier model, with a new Satin Black finish. All black hardware, with a Tort guard.

I figured for $115 shipped to my door from Germany, it was worth a shot. Worst case I could get it in decent playing shape and give it to my nephew.

I have to say, I am shocked by the overall quality of this bass...For $85 (+ $30 Shipping to the States) this is a hell of a bargain.

I cannot find any finish issues, other than some minor residue here and there. No scratches, dings, gouges etc..

Took it out of the box, spent less than a minute tuning it up and off I went. Plays great, neck is chunky but feels very comfortable. Zero sharp fret edges, intonated shockingly well....I didn’t have time to do any adjustments, but the action is pretty low and plays great.

My only “negatives” if I have to find any, would be the pickup & the bit of neck dive.
By no means are these glaring issues, just want to be honest in my assessment of the bass. I do plan on changing the pickup & possibly re-wiring the electronics, but again....I am very impressed overall!
Shipping was less than 10 days to my Door, during the holiday season! Figured I wouldn’t get it before Christmas, but was pleasantly surprised when it showed up yesterday. Here are a few quick pics!

Wow, I gotta say that one looks about a million times better than the PB-20 they shipped me. It was a trainwreck and had the worst setup I've ever seen in a bass. EVER! Even after extensive work + replacing a couple of parts it's still not a very good instrument. I actually decided against giving it to a charity because it would feel like dumping garbage at them. In hindsight I should probably have returned it to Thomann for a refund but I figured it was a nice chance to practise my somewhat rusty re-fretting skills.

But yours look great! If it plays and sounds ok too you've got yourself a bargain, congrats!!!

Man, that bums me out! Here I am praising the instrument and you went through hell.
It’s so hit or miss with these low end guitars, some are gems & some are exactly what you pay for. Guess it’s luck of the draw. Sorry to hear about your experience, but it’s important for all of us to chime in. 1 good review doesn’t make the company, nor does 1 bad review. We had the same bass with completely different results...
It really is a Gamble with this sort of thing.

That is the most beautiful bass I've seen. I also have had a few HB's and think they are great quality and tone, esp for the price. Just checked, this matte black beauty is out of stock for 8 weeks.....gaaahhhhhhh.

Thanks! Yeah I just happened to be looking at new Harley Benton stock about 2 weeks ago and spotted this bass. Couldn’t resist at that price....
As for weight, I haven’t got an exact weight yet but it feels no more than 8.5 lbs to me. The body is super light, neck has more weight to it, but the neck dive isn’t terrible.
