NBD: I finally P'd. Now I'm relieved... beautiful '65 Precision

Thanks for all the suggestions on p-basses. I've been shopping for a while. I've owned a few but never quite met 'the one'. TBers gave me a ton of great suggestions.

Not long after I posted that thread asking about p-basses, I stumbled across this gem. This is a '65 Precision. It's not one of those basses that's sat in the closet for decades either. This one's definitely been played (that case tells the tale...lol). From the cigarette burn in the headstock to the nice yellowing of the Olympic White finish, this girl has seen some action. The neck is in great shape. The action is decent, although I'm curious how much room there is to adjust.

The stamp on the neck plate is dated Feb 5, 1965, so it missed "pre-CBS" by a month. But she's sufficiently older than me, so that's still cool.

The tone is classic (obviously). It's surprisingly loud for a passive bass. I'm certainly looking forward to spending the weekend together, getting to know her a little better.

Incredible. I'm suitably jealous. I don't see myself owning a vintage Precision any time soon. There are too many other, cheaper basses I want to buy first. But I would love to play one just once.

Yeah, I get it. I've been through my fair share of basses. A good, vintage precision has been on my bucket list for a while.

Congrats on the bucket list score! That's a beaut and most likely the body and the neck were just hanging out and stamped 65 - so don't sweat the pre-cbs thing.

Great point. I wasn't too worried about it. The fact that it's technically not pre-CBS probably slid it into the price range I was willing to spend.

Yeah, the fretboard has a nice texture and grain. I'm really excited about this one.

Olympic white + tort, great combination. Fretboard is a looker too. Nice score!

Early Fenders do have really nice, dark rosewood fretboards. Just as today, some basses manufactured in 1965 were better than others. Battle scars are a good sign. And finally, you may find the 7.25" radius to be.....different. I think they are cool to play.

Yeah, definitely a technicality. I’m not too worried about the pre-CBS thing because it had it been assembled a month earlier, my price would have been significantly higher.
