It's a box! And in that box a smaller box (my two helpers are inspecting for contraband) And in that box my new bass! A Guild Starfire I. I was looking for a short scale bass because it has the same scale as my Gretsch G5260 I'm playing a lot lately. After trying some basses locally I decided to take a deep dive and order the Guild. You really can't go wrong with a P element. And thanks to @LowEndLobster , who showed me that the bass would play nice with fuzz. First impressions are very positive. Beautiful, deep sound. The Vintage function won't be used a lot, but that's OK. Tomorrow I can spend some time on it to set it up and change the strings to Pyramid tape wounds.
Update after a day. This bass looks great! Really well made. Nice binding, that has a 'vintage' look. Which means it looks yellow next to a guitar with white binding Tuners feel a bit 'meh'. I think they will be the first to go. Maybe lollipop Hipshots. Sadly I was an idiot. I had bought some Pyramid Tape Wounds for this bass. But they don't fit. Short scale doesn't fit... Luckily another bass had TI Flats and I could exchange the strings (except for the G from the Guild, that one was cut too short for a long scale 4 in line bass). Tomorrow band practice! Can't wait to see how it feels and sounds there I was surprised how good the set up was out of the box. Intonated well, low action, just a tiny bit of rattle here and there.
