Hey Everyone,

I put this as NBD-ish because I've had this a couple weeks and have been just swamped and unable to really get some good time with this bass.

First impressions:

It's an incredible instrument in every way. The construction and quality is, well it's a ZON so it's top notch. Each position is relatively easy to play and only took a few moments of brain confusion to get this thing down.

The fretted neck has that well known ZON spank and with the humbuckers is very sweet in the upper registers.

The fretless neck is the best sounding ZON fretless of the 3 I've owned. It's comfortable for me to play as I generally play my fretless basses a bit higher.

The controls are all stacked knobs and set up just like a ZON custom with the lower rings operating the fretted bass and the upper knobs working the fretless. The two switches are mid range selectors. The rear 3 way is: fretted down, both middle, fretless up.

Both necks also have SIMS custom LEDs. The fretted has both side and fretmarker lights and the fretless just has the side dots.

Joe does absolutely incredible work.

The bass comes in at a tad under 15lbs. I've had Jazz Basses that weigh 13+ so it doesn't tax me much.

I probably wouldn't use it much for my different band gigs, but as a solo piece it will fit in nicely with some of the looping stuff that I do.

I'm still trying to fully get my head around this bass. I've considered creating an alternate body for it to better fit the ergonomics of my body. It is comfy to play, but I think a couple tweaks could make it simply incredible for my needs. For now I'm quite happy to learn its secrets and love it for what it is.

I believe it's the only one Joe's ever made so I would have a hard time changing it. :)

I'll try to get some clips up in the next week. My apprehension with starting the thread was that I'm pretty busy with work these days and I wanted to be able to answer any questions people had. I'll do my best to check in as often as time permits.

I think this gets me a good seat in the ZON club :)
Sorry for the crappy Iphone pics.
And if anyone can figure how to rotate them once to the right I'd be very thankful as I couldn't get it to work :)

All the Best,
Derrick

It is quite a little beast. I've got a jazz/prog type trio coming together where this would work nicely. Using my Boomerang and dirt pedals will be fun too. I may even experiment with BEAD on the fretless and ADGC on the fretted.
