NBD: I’m obsessed with Mystic Surf Green!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know what I said. Not gigging. Selling off my instruments. It's all true.

but…

I still need a few things to play. I mean, I'm not quitting bass altogether. So I'm keeping the '69 P. Keeping the FCS '58 P (now with a Lollar!!!) but I still need (okay, want) a jazz and I want a 5. So… 5-string jazz!

This is a brand new Fender American Professional II jazz bass in a gorgeous Mystic Surf Green from the fine folks at Sweetwater. Seriously, I'm obsessed with this color/finish. It's really great. The bass weighs in right around 9lb. And it sounds and plays fantastic. I'm also obsessed with this neck profile. Tapered slim C is apparently my jam… reminds me of my MTD. And the antiqued satin finish is smooth.

It wasn't ridiculously expensive so I still have $$ in the gear fund. I love the way it plays and sounds. I've been shedding with it all afternoon! It will be a great bass for jamming and the occasional church gig, where I still intend to volunteer every now and then. So yeah, definite keeper for a good long while.

Gosh, TB, that's gorgeous! What a find!
Enjoy!

I was gonna resist tempting you with aftermarket ideas, but if you find the OEM pickups lacking, check out the Lindy Fralin single-coils. I absolutely love mine. Not over-, not underwound. Just good ol' stock Fralin wind.

Yeah, I could see me using a bass like this for some mods. I've always liked Fralins and Lollars. If I do that I may hit you up first.

For the record, this thing is as nice as my Lull at a fraction of the cost and with a better neck profile. (don't tell Spencer… lol)

Nice! Of the latest finishes Fender has offered for the American Professional II line, Mystic Surf is one of my favorites. How's the B string on this one? I have had an opportunity to play any of the Pro II 5-strings locally.
The B really surprised me. it's loud and very clear. Not muddy at all. It sounds somewhat piano-ish in its tone. And it's very even with the rest of the strings.

I have Lollars in all 4 of my JB's. I've wanted to try the Fralins...

Mystic green is the nicest finish on the latest Am. Pro line. I wish they had it in five string with the rosewood fingerboard. The 4 string P + RW with this finish is gorgeous!

Oh wow. I didn't notice that. I wonder why. They did it on the Strats, Teles and 4 strings. Fortunately for me, I dig a jazz with maple. But yeah, that's odd.

Looks great with the maple neck. Congratulations.

If you order the Fralins, consider ordering the stack knob control plate too.

So nice.
Yeah, I saw those. Pretty cool. Truth be told, these V-Mod II pickups sound really nice. I don't think I'll be changing anything anytime soon. But I'm also one who gets bored and wants to try stuff. So who knows? I certainly don't. :smug:
