FYI, I swapped the pickups out in my PB4 and PB5, and the tone definitely changed as well. I would not worry too much about the sound because there are lots of options should you not like that more modern sound. It sounds so different from what I’m used to. I need to try one out somewhere!
Which ones did you switch them out with?FYI, I swapped the pickups out in my PB4 and PB5, and the tone definitely changed as well. I would not worry too much about the sound because there are lots of options should you not like that more modern sound.
That's so cool! I've been kicking around the idea of ordering one in Lefty. If you don't mind, a couple questions.I just got my Kiesel/Carvin PB4 in yesterday and I really like it. It's a pretty big difference compared to my beloved Warmoth P Bass. It's alot lighter and has the 1.5 width at the nut, but it sounds and plays great. Can't wait to gig with it.

Both have Nordstrands, the NP4A (the 5 string version is just called NP5). The 4 string had EMG Geezers as well, which were actually really great but just wasn’t the sound I was looking for for that bass. I still kept the P for when I have another P to drop it in.Which ones did you switch them out with?
Congrats!I just got my Kiesel/Carvin PB4 in yesterday and I really like it...

My order took 8 weeks to build. That's so cool! I've been kicking around the idea of ordering one in Lefty. If you don't mind, a couple questions.
How long did the order take?
You said it was more like a Jazz neck and different neck shape. I play an Ibanez. Is it similar in that shape?
Does it get a nice deep sound like a P bass?
Forgot to mention, great score on a beautiful bass! Congrats!![]()

I would say the neck is similar to a jazz bass, but with a 14 inch radius.
Yes it does sound like a P bass, but hotter. It sounds like an active P, even though it is passive.
Thanks for letting us know. I'm still torn because Warmoth does "roasted" finishes. On necks and bodies. I'm wanting a roasted neck and roasted body with a butterscotch finish P bass. After playing both my warmoth and carvin for awhile. I can say I like the warmoth better and it will probably still be my #1, but I still really like the carvin and am probably going to throw some flats on it and leave it alone.
Your welcome. I really like warmoth. They make good stuff. Thanks for letting us know. I'm still torn because Warmoth does "roasted" finishes. On necks and bodies. I'm wanting a roasted neck and roasted body with a butterscotch finish P bass.
Sorry to hear that. A shim would have fixed the issue. Definitely check out the Ibanez Premium. I have one, an SR1200, and really like it.Well guys sorry to inform you, I ended up sending the Carvin back. I wanted to like it, but the bridge was as low as it would go and the truss rod was as tight as it could go. The string action was still too high. This was just unacceptable. I've owned 3 Carvins total (2 I've had built and sent back) and 1 used off of TB and haven't bonded with either of them. I think they could have spent a little more time setting the bass up better. Oh well. I'll get my refund and look into something different. I've been wanting to try an Ibanez SR premium 4 string.
Yeah I've been wanting to buy one for years, but everytime I get ready to buy one I end up talking myself out of it. Thinking about getting the 1300e or 1400e.Sorry to hear that. A shim would have fixed the issue. Definitely check out the Ibanez Premium. I have one, an SR1200, and really like it.
I own 4 Ibanez basses. I switched from the P and J formula in the 80's and have never been happier. Something so excellent about Ibanez basses.Well guys sorry to inform you, I ended up sending the Carvin back. Too bad, but good choice sending it back. Yes, a shim would probably have worked, but you shouldn't have to shim a new bass.Well guys sorry to inform you, I ended up sending the Carvin back.
