NBD: Kind of Shocking Purchase

Chalk it up to market research. Yes, I'm the guy who says "I didn't even know Gibson MADE basses" and look at me now.

I saw these here first a while back and liked the approach. Then my friend Morrow actually bought one and wouldn't shut up about how much he liked it. I still wasn't going to buy one, mind you, but then my old pal Kevin Borden (Kebo) had this up on Reverb and it already had flats on it and, well, here we are.

If it ends up staying around, I'll probably sell one of the children and buy some TI Flats for it. Those make everything better, even if it's already good.

I understand that people often complain about the bridge? Can't say I understand it as it seems to work fine on this one. Someday I'll have to learn to adjust the truss rod and so on, but it's fine as far as I can tell.

Cool, sexy little machine. I'm digging the simplicity.

Congratulations on trusting your own hands-on experience over “web wisdom” on that non-issue. I never had any problem with that bridge either.

the bridge design is similar to older Rickenbacker , where you do not have individual string height adjustment, only a bolt/ screw to rise the treble or bass side of the bridge. This is usually not a problem if the saddles have been properly filed /setup to follow the neck radius.

Also, some people try to raise the bridge with the strings under tension , which pulls the anchors from the body.

That being said , i have always been able to set up to my liking every Gibson bass that I’ve owned , with the 2 or 3 point bridge.
