NBD Lefty Regenerate 5 String P Bass

I have wanted to try playing 5 string for a while, but really only have eyes for P's, and thought I'd have to save up and have one custom built. Then, low and behold, this sucker pops up on eBay! Watched closely, and put in the winning bid in the last few seconds of the auction. This is the only lefty 5 string P I have ever seen! Still waiting on the 5 string set of GHS flats to show up, so its rounds for now unfortunately, but it still plays and sounds great! 5 strings are going to take a while to get used to though.

From what I know, this bass was built by Regenerate Guitar Works for NAMM in 2012, and there are a couple of threads of the build and completed bass from back then.

Don't mind the staggered height of the wall hangers, the one on the left usually holds my Tele, but I want both P's easily accessible for A/B testing.

Is that a NAMM 2012 display model?

Did anyone here go to NAMM 2012?
This bass was indeed part of the Regenerate Guitar Works NAMM inventory on display at the show.

This is the booth a couple hours before show opening on Thursday morning. The was an additional lefty in a case that didn't make the cut due to limited booth space. IIRC I don't recall any other booth having more lefty inventory that year.

this recent 2017 show was the first year we didn't have at least one lefty bass in the booth inventory

Congrats on a great bass. I have a Heritage Extreme Plus (think really modern take on a '55 Precision) from the NAMM 2011 show and I can't say enough good things about it or Rod. Great guy who makes great basses. It's one bass that will be one of the last to go when I can no longer play. But will likely keep it just to look at fondly. We need a post your Regenerate Bass thread!

yo dawg! i heard, you like string retainers?

the second string retainer is absent on the namm pic, so probably for the previous owner one string retainer was way too little.

Actually, the Hipshot style string retainer just wasn't working to my satisfaction.

Usage of the Hipshot retainer was terminated, and a couple of the basses we had in stock were upgraded with the style retainer near the headstock transition we currently use on our VRB line. There may be two or three basses out there with this 'dual retainer' configuration.

And my ignorance rears its ugly head... I don't even know what they do to be honest. Looks kinda cool though, if a bit busy.
