Man, I used to be such a big Jah Wobble fan. Only reason I owned my Magnum was to chase his tone. The Public Image Ltd. records he played on still sound like they're from the future. His tone was impossibly big. Not sure if he had the Magnum then, as I know he's had Ampegs, Precisions and Yamahas along the way. Lost track of him until he had a surprise alternative hit with Visions of You in the early 90s, which drove home to me the virtues of playing simply.
Wobble did so much cool stuff through the 90s and into the early 2000s. Lately, however, he seems to have slid into smoove jazz stuff, and it's a bummer. Maybe it's more lucrative, but I feel like his playing would be better suited doing something different. That said, his book "Memoirs of a Geezer" is absolutely hilarious and a great read. If you are into him and the early punk and post-punk scene, definitely worth reading. He falls out with everyone he crosses or works with!
