NBD Magnum I

Congratulations!!

These Magnums are definitely on my GAS list....not sure which model I like best, I just like them all!
I think they have such a unique look, had some pretty cool technical advancements for the time (some of which I’m surprised didn’t catch on more), and I’m pretty sure they sound like thunder!!

Looks like you got a great specimen of one, and I love that it came with the original case too!

That’s a great feeling when you get a new instrument and can’t put it down!! I find a great new bass can really inspire & take your creativity in new directions.
The new feel, the new sounds... very cool!

Here’s to lots of enjoyment & great bass lines!

Thought I had recorded some clips of mine, but can't find them now. They do sound good - mine sounds a bit thin to me because of the light strings (I prefer heavies) but still sounds great.

Plays well right out of the case and seems to be in great condition. There’s some dust, dirt and one scratch/gouge on the middle top. I didn’t score a great deal but I think I paid a fair price.
That sucker is baaad!

As someone who owned a Magnum 1 for a long time, you got one that looks like it's in great condition. You also got the case, which doesn't seem to happen all that much. A lot of them out there are pretty battered these days, and it's not always easy to find one that doesn't have bad damage or some insane modifications. Seems like a lot of them got hacked up pretty bad.

I liked my Magnum, but sold it last year for around $1,100. Paid $400 in the mid-2000s. I always found the bass to be overly engineered and quite fussy to set up given the quirky bridge. Also, quite heavy. What redeemed it all was that neck humbucker. Slap some flats on that guy and it's a killer.

In the end, I flipped mine because I had a shot at getting my dream bass, a Fender American Jaguar, so I took the shot. I do miss the Magnum. Nothing like it.

I remember when those came out. Ross Valory of Journey played one for awhile.
Very cool bass, Congrats!
I've handled a number of them over the years. I remember they were usually fairly heavy, what does yours weigh?

I haven’t had a chance to weigh yet.....it’s heavy. I’m gonna guess around 10. I’ve heard complaints of neck dive but it seems pretty balanced.

Awesome! Yours is in nearly as good of shape as mine, which is pretty rare! Congrats!
